Artificer

Once a rare occurrence, following the colonial program artificers became common place in Falarin and abroad. These scientific pioneers seek to replicate the effects of magic through the use of mechanical, and more reliably controllable, means which can include fields from alchemy to smithing. Most artificers are trained at the University of Natural Philosophy which proclaims its core purpose as being the enslavement of magic for all merkind. 
Aritficer's use to tools means they rarely possess an understanding of the Arcan tongue unless from a purely scholarly point of view. The use of arcan or understanding of it is often viewed with suspicion and contention among artificers who question the degree to which understanding the wizard tongue may open the pathway to cheating in their craft. Following the restriction and criminalisation of unauthorised magic in the empire artificers were considered legal practitioners without need for a writ. Their devices were on occasion regulated and challenged as endangering the realm where the effects were substantial but the practitioners themselves received no such threat to their own liberties.
