Sealord of the Carnotte Isles

The Sealord of the Carnotte Isles is the title given to the ruler of Duchy of the Carnotte Isles. Unlike other duchies the lords of the Carnotte Isles elect their Duke/King in a moot where any captain on the isle may stand for the position.
Traditionally the title has been held by the House of Grismaut except for rare occasions when it has left the family in favour for a hero of the Isles.

Appointment

The moot to elect the Sealord of the Carnotte Isles is held on the central island of the Carnotte Isles at a meeting of all the captains of the realm. Each captain has equal worth at the moot regardless of noble peerage and any can put themselves forward to the Sealordship. This came about as each Captain is king aboard their own ship.
