Dragonborn

The bulky, scaly Dragonborn people hail from a continent far off to the south-east. A year ago, in 233 PS, a large military ship filled with chromatic and metallic soldiers washed up on the shores of Aeseron. How they made it through the Maelstrom, nobody knows. Including the Dragonborn themselves, or at least so they claim. The Dragonborn have now gotten leave from the polis of Itomenion  to take refuge in a compound within the city's Copper District.

History

The continent they hail from is full of Dragonborn and other Beastfolk. There are three distinct groups of Dragonborn. Chromatic, Metallic, and Gem. After the first few generations of Dragonborn, the Chromatic and Metallic Dragonborn left on their ships, heading to the New World, leaving the Gem Dragonborn in the Old Continent.   However, the culture of the Dragonborn has remained somewhat consistent, even after thousands of years passing, and the language has barely changed. However, Gem Dragonborn have not expanded quite as much as their counterparts, and make up less than 5% of the total Dragonborn population.

Ideals

Dragonborn are militaristic, with many becoming Barbarians, though some become Paladins, Fighters, Clerics, and Bards. Most prefer to become Barbarians, as wearing armour hides their scales, which is quite the shame. It is not because they tend towards it naturally, though some might argue such, it is just that their lands are dangerous and untamed, even with centuries of effort to change such a matter.   In the Dragonborn lands, Dragonborn are typically led by Dragons. Some are led by a monarch, others a council, and others are sometimes allied with Dragons, but Dragons and Dragonborn remain quite close. Due to the role of the Dragons in Dragonborn society, their states are quite stable, and though there is often war, it is rare for there to be large shifts in power. Though there is often infighting between the various colours, outside threats keep Dragonborn fairly united.   They hold quite a lot of respect for anyone who fights, especially those who are warriors. They’re always eager to fight, and will meet such challenges on without duplicity. Honesty is important to Dragonborn, and just generally behave as one might expect someone “good” to act. It’s not that they won’t lie, it’s just they won’t lie for their own benefit. They might lie under certain circumstances, like to protect others.

Culture

They venerate Dragons as their ancestors, and treat them as one might a respected Elder. However, there is a distinction between Dragons and the Divine, and though some Dragonborn may venerate Dragons as such, most believe Gods to be greater than Dragons, and pray as such. Of course, most Gods do take on a more Draconic appearance for Dragonborn, but many seem to fit into the typical Gods one might expect.   Dragonborn believe in all Gods, even those they have only just learned about. They may not worship all the Gods faithfully, but they will not disrespect any God, even if they are claimed to be evil, and may offer prayers to the Gods, though not for assistance, just to keep themselves in good graces with such Gods.   Due to how they believe in all the Gods, they also try to treat people with their own culture, as long as it doesn’t go against Dragonborn culture. They will generally deal with the dead however their particular culture does it. They’re very keen on making sure other cultures are respected.   Due to this, they also expect their own laws to be followed when in Dragonborn lands. They are extremely strict, hence the term Draconian Laws. They have a particular sense of punishment too. A guilty party will be forced to work for a certain period of time depending on the offence, called punishment labour. It is unheard of for a guilty party to be harmed as part of a punishment, since they are more useful helping around the area. Those who show good behaviour during their punishment labour may find sentences shortened. However, those who do something terrible during their punishment labour may be put to death, but that is only for the gravest of matters.   Dragonborn eat a fairly wide diet. Meat and vegetables are a staple, especially lamb and potatoes. They also have a sweet tooth for various fruits, which are eaten in abundance during holidays. For alcohol they prefer anything distilled from fruit specifically.   Dragonborn typically do not cover their torsos, and wear attire which covers their bodies from the navel to their knees. Typically they wear a long sash which covers them, though skirts are a popular option, and shorts are rare. Often times, they will have bits of metal clipped into their clothing, bronze and iron being the most common metals. They love collecting all types of metals and gems. They do love to wear some jewellery, especially chains, though wearing too much precious metal is considered gaudy. Dragonborn typically do not wear pelts or attire that comes from slaying animals.   Dragonborn typically greet one another by thumping their chest with their fist, or throwing a fist down ahead of them. (Think throwing rock in a game of rock, paper, scissors.)   Due to their natural abilities, and their relation to Dragons, Dragonborn are also great crafters. They can smith great weapons, and can literally breathe magic into items as they are crafted.   Dragonborns love a good story and they love a good laugh. Sometimes they laugh at the most inappropriate things, though they mean no offence by it.   GEM DRAGONBORN Gem Dragonborn have slight differences in comparison to their brethren. They think on a longer term, like the Elves and Dwarves, even though they are not long lived. Though Barbarian is a popular option for them, they are equally as likely as to become Paladins, due to the fact they are keepers of various secrets and safeguard certain areas sacred to the origins of all Dragonborns. Their language is Old Draconic rather than Grey Draconic, though they can communicate with each other fine.

The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.   Damage Resistance You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.   Languages You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
