Anchorpoint

The capital of Vanreth, Anchorpoint is a sprawling and cramped city layed out before the Crown Lake. Filled with crowded streets, tight alleyways, and tall structures, Anchorpoint is the heart of Vanreth for everything from trade to religion to politics to magic. Built upon layers and layers of conflict, Anchorpoint is a city that built itself up after numerous wars - litterarly and figueratively - with the foundations of some buildings being centuries old while the rooves may only be a decade. Constantly embroiled in conflicts, Anchorpoint still exists because the people within it are strong and the gold that flows through it is stronger.    Ancherpoint extends beyond the walls that surround it, off into the lake, to the Worlds Edge Keep - a strong structure built on an island that rests right before the Crimson Falls, a large waterfall where the Sliver meets the Red Iron River. This keep is the seat of Anchorpoints power, where the Carmine Throne sits and as does the Paramount - the ruler of Vanreth. Defending it and the various military posts in Anchorpoint is the Whitewatch, a neutral party of soldiers trained (often from birth) to defend the paramount and their interests in Anchorpoint with no loyalty to anything else.    Anchorpoints trade is well known, even with it at the top of the falls it still recieves ships from all over - arriving at the ports at the base, with their goods tranpsorted up the cliff through elevators and pullies to be hastily imported to the city itself. Though inconvienient, Anchorpoints massive markets and streets filled with various buyers and sellers means its often worth it.    The city features various sights, from the Bishops Hearth Church which the second largest church in the world, to the streets of Old Nights which is the only street that has never been rebuilt, the Saltfalls Arena which hosts various fights, and the Throne Road which has a statue of each ruler of Vanreth depicted.    Anchorpoints criminal elements are well known, and the tolerance for them changes with each ruler. A healthy underground has formed, often in the blown out remains of buildings and never finished projects of one time rulers. This ranges from smuggling to guilds of full assassins. With each ruler often occupied by holding the throne for as long as possible, Anchorpoint sees neglect more times than not. The city itself may be prosperous but many of its rulers are corrupt and the shrewd businessman has more control over a block than guards do.    Currently House Ashwell runs Anchorpoint, and though Mira Ashwell holds the throne she's appointed her cousin Dieter in charge of running the city itself. It's made him a wealthy man, though at the expense of many.
