Petula, The White Bishop
The White Bishop Petula (a.k.a. Bishop)
Petula was born in the state of Alexandria to an Orcish mother and Elvish father. A child prodigy, Petula was always more interested in his own personal experiments and struggled to make friends, spend time around people, or even engage with his parents in ways that other children found simple. His entire outlook on life, the world, and the very universe itself, seemed to be completely different from anyone around him, which lead to lots of schoolyard taunts.
As a young adult, barely in his teens, Petula was recruited by the sages at the Crystarium in Respite after a somewhat misguided experiment caught their eyes. He quickly learned all that the Crystarium had to offer as he completed his training, becoming their most well-regarded expert on the elemental planes. He eventually gained the title of the White Bishop, the head of all Abjurative arcanum research in the institute.
He leads a rather simple life, separate from the people around him - even his peers continue the schoolyard taunts, albeit behind his back. He pretends he doesn't notice, but he knows his prodigy status has drawn people's ire, even if he can't understand why. All he has to do is continue with his work, and it will speak for itself when he is able to create tethers between the elemental planes and the very core of a being.
It wasn't until a group of ragtag adventurers showed up at his door after he accidentally summoned a book-eating fiend and set his defense system on the fritz that his life began to change, and he met his new (and possibly only) friend - a Kobold by the name of Kelly. Together, when the adventurers are away, they work on Petula's projects together. They even had a little side-project of bringing an ancient, unknown automaton to new life.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Taller than most, Petula stands at 6'4" with a slight build and limbs that seem longer than his torso suggests. He is often seen walking with a cane, but the lack of a limp suggests it is not for the benefit of his gait.
Facial Features
Glasses permanently adorn Petula's face, augmenting his below-average sight. Being of Half-Orc and Half-Elf heritage, he has the pointy ears of his elven side, but files down the tusks from his orcish nature.

Employment
The main focus of Petula's research relates to the source of innate magical talents, particularly those of magical creatures who aren’t regarded as “sentient”. His theory is that whilst learned magic knowingly draws on the power of different planes, and gifted magic comes directly from gods (and god-like beings), creatures with innate magic have the ability to create magical effects because they are directly tied to elemental (or other assorted) planes. His aim is to prove this connection by creating a forced connection to the planes. So far he has managed to attune ordinary crystals with planar energy, giving them magical properties, but in an attempt to imbue his Ferret with the power of fire he accidentally summoned a demon that possessed some of his books.
Since becoming friends with The Slayers, Petula's research has become somewhat delayed due to a slew of research requests from his first real friends.
