Ankh'qe'but

House Ankh'qe'but is one of the ruling families of the city-states of Sha'geah. The house is strongly matriarchal, even more so than the other houses of the Doshafir. They are also much more closely knit and value familial relations highly, often to the point of refusing business partners if their lineage is considered to be inferior.

History

For as long as anyone can remember, house Ankh'qe'but has been a loyal supporter of the Earthborn faith. Together with House Za'herre'thun, they are likely the cause for the strong earthborn presence at the edge of the great desert. The house has woven strong communal and familial ties by a combination of shrewd marriages, diplomacy and powerful fertility rites to ensure that the family not only survived the great cataclysm but thrived. Nowadays the house is more akin to a clan, ruling the city that proudly bears their name. But despite this clear narrative, accepted by a great many historians, there are persistent whispers that the rise of the house is built upon a darker foundation. The house of the spider and the illustrious spidersun have both risen to prominence at about the same time and in the same region as each other. While certainly no hard evidence, it does make for a compelling argument that the two must have had dealings in the past.

Economy and wealth

The house deals in information of any kind, but favouring economic and more worldly knowledge above the more academic focus of house Sha'ben'non. Scions of the house tend to have a great affinity for divination and scrying magics which is a great boon in the information brokering business, which is further supplemented by a well-developped network of factors, informants and spies. Besides this, they also operate a vast commercial postal service. Last but not least is their silk production, which is fabled for its durability and vivid colours. The house of Ank'qe'but is one of the few that has mastered the delicate art of spinning spider silk.
