Burmecia
Burmecia is found in the Arnsend Mountains and highlands of northern Alagend. The Great Wyrm Marduk rules over the gothic spires of Burmecia through a child figurehead said to be chosen amongst the nobility at birth to share a piece of the great wyrm’s soul, called the Voice of Marduk. Marduk and the Voice are worshipped throughout Burmecia as a god-like figure who conquered Burmecia nearly a thousand years ago.
The city of Burmecia lies in the Crescent Gap, a narrow pass that cuts through the Arnsend Mountains, acting as a barrier to the main overland route from central Alagend to the Drakenvale in the northwest of the continent.
Burmecia gains its power from The Great Crystal of Ice, which shrouds the city-state in a chilling cold and never-ending winter which turns back any unprepared to exist in such a harsh environment.
Structure
The Voice of Marduk lives and rules the city-state and its surrounding territories from his seat in the Temple of the Voice. Raen nobles rule the surrounding lands, with holdings both within and outside the city, whose authority flows directly from the good will of the Voice. Elezen and Hyur are barred from noble title, but may rise above the peasantry through service and devotion within the church. Burmecian presence does stretch from the wall of the Arnsend Mountains, into the Drakenvale, however the tribal lifestyle of the Xaela who worship Marduk takes over the further into the Drakenvale one travels.Territories
The territory of the City-State stretches south from Burmecia to the edge of the Arnsend Central Highlands, and northwest into the Drakenvale Forelands. As one travels further northwest into the Drakenvale Hinterlands, and Icespire Peak where the Brood of Marduk roost, direct political control from Burmecia falls off in favor of the direct rule of the dragons and Xaela that dwell there.Religion
The only accepted religion in the City State of Burmecia is that of the direct worship of The Great Wyrm Marduk and his draconic host. Ancestral and spirit worship remains strong among the Xaela of the Drakenvale Hinterlands. Only the Au'Ra are truly given this latitude of religious freedom. Elezen and Hyur who are found to stray from worship of the Great Wyrm are found and typically executed as heretics.
