Asrai
Asrais are creatures of Faerie.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The body of an asrai is made of a viscous water-like substance, which they can reshape at will. They can take any shape they wish but are generally most comfortable in a humanoid shape. In addition to being able to reshape themselves, they can shift their mass around parts of their body. Areas with more mass are darker and harder, and areas with less mass are lighter and softer. Areas with very little mass can become translucent. They can also give parts of their body the appearance of flowing like water. This is most commonly done with their "hair", but can be done anywhere. They have no internal organs save for the brain, which can be moved around the body at will.
When an asrai is injured they do not suffer wounds like most other races. Instead, their body reshapes to fill the gap left by the injury, the removed material dissipating as it leaves. This leads to the misconception that asrais cannot be injured, as the effects of injuries on an asrai's body only become apparent when a large amount of damage is done. This is visible through changes in an asrai's size. An asrai can choose to prevent itself from reshaping after being injured, but this is both pointless and painful.
An asrai that has taken damage can heal themselves by taking water into their body and converting it into part of their body, which takes fifteen minutes per pint of water.
Genetics and Reproduction
Asrais reproduce sexually and are ovoviviparous. The egg forms inside the mother, and then the child begins to form inside of it, a process that takes four months. The egg is formed from the mother's body, and due to its extremely high density, requires much of the mother's body mass. As such, asrai mothers tend to spend most or all of their time in water during these four months. If an asrai goes through this process without replenishing any of her body, by the time it is finished, she will be almost transparent. Once this is complete, the egg is placed in (preferably warm) water and the child continues to develop inside of it for another six months. When this is complete, the child absorbs the egg into its own body.
A newborn asrai is much more developed than newborns of most other races, resembling a two-year-old Human in terms of development.
Ecology and Habitats
Asrais prefer warm climates and tend to live near water. It is dangerous for them to live in cold areas, as they can freeze solid. An asrai that is completely frozen will not die as a result, but will essentially be completely paralyzed until thawed.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Asrais are omnivorous and are somewhat adaptable.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Asrais have average normal senses. They can also easily detect movement up to one hundred and fifty feet away while submerged in water.
