Jorogumo

Jorogumo are spider-like Yokai, a type of Narakan demon.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A jorogumo is roughly humanoid in shape, with a chitinous body. Their faces are quite spider-like. In addition to their arms, they have additional limbs, similar to a spider's legs, sprouting from their backs. These are primarily used for climbing and crawling. Similarly to spiders, jorogumo are capable of producing silk, which is used for a variety of purposes including large webs for hunting, as well as the production of textiles.

Biological Traits

Male jorogumo are much smaller than females, having an average height of only five feet compared to the females' six feet. In addition, males are on average somewhat weaker.

Genetics and Reproduction

Jorogumo reproduce sexually and are oviparous. Their incubation period is one year, and they typically lay eggs in clutches of five to seven.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Jorogumo are carnivorous and are somewhat adaptable.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

When used for textiles, jorogumo silk is incredibly light and durable, and so is quite popular for armor as well as clothing. Raw silk, which is most commonly used for creating webs, is still quite strong, but to a lesser extent.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Jorogumo have above-average eyesight and are otherwise average. If they are touching one of their webs, they can easily detect vibrations in it.
