Falstrime
The capital of Marlund
Demographics
A mix of Lunidians and Marans. Large number of clerics belonging to the Mission of Kalou. Most of the unlanded nobility of Marlund lives here. A very wealthy city, the poor and homeless live outside the city walls.
Government
Lead by the Missionary of Falstrime, who presides over a city council made up of nobles, clerics and wealthy citizens. The city is further divided into parishes which are lead by priests or magicians. The peace is kept by the city shamans, a role that only exists in the capital.
Infrastructure
Falstrime is connected to Marlund's robust road network and is surrounded by an outer and inner city wall. The Sen river currently serves as a sewage system, although there are plans underway to modernize it with the help of Aylian engineers. The High Temple is situated in the city centre, dominating its skyline, and serves both as a place of religious ceremony and as the castle of the Aren family.
Guilds and Factions
The Mission of Kalou effectively controls the city, although it can be split up into a more royalist/ conservative and a more populist faction. The rest of the power is shared by the non-clerical noble houses and the artisanal guilds who mostly use their wealth to bribe the clerics whose goals most align with theirs. While the Monarch and High Missionary of Marlund can override any decision made by the city's government, they rarely do so out of fear of exacerbating tensions in the capital, and mostly stay in the High Temple.
Architecture
Most of the houses are built with stone or are half-timbered. In the more old parts of town they're often crooked and pressed together with snaking alleyways and dead ends making navigating the streets into a near impossible task for non-locals. Most of the temples and healing houses are indistinguishable from residential buildings, with the main exeption being the monumental High Temple. The parishes are separated by sturdy iron gates that are closed at night.
Geography
Located at the rocky shores of the Sen river whose strong currents and small waterfalls make navigating it impossible.
