Zetalph

The city of smog and metal

A lot of people say that Zetalph grew the most since the Age of War and yet haven't changed at all.

Industry & Trade

A long time ago, during the Age of War, around Zetalph, enormous deposits of metals have been found. Because of that, the war-related industry has been kickstarted. A lot of weapons and armors used in other parts of the Urnketh came from here.   The amounts of metals mined and stored in the city have been so big, they started being used in the ways one normally doesn't use them, such as in house-building, making Metal houses of Zetalph one of its characteristic features.   With the discovery of the Color embroidery and armor being used less and less, the city had to find other ways to stay afloat. Yes, the sponge iron deposits also were big here, but what was needed were some pigments.
That's why more and more pigment factories have been created here. Now, after many years of improving technologies under the rule of Princess' Jolene royal family, Zetalph thrives on the production of pigments and magical items based on them.

Architecture

The houses of Zetalph are minimalistic, looking more like the metal boxes than the normal houses. Same goes for the factories.
The only part of the city that doesn't suit this look is the royal palace. Made out of white stone interwoven by silver and gold ornaments, this structure is decorated by hundreds of patterns, sculptures, and beams. It almost seems supernatural, how this building can stay white with the chimneys of factories spewing smog everywhere.

Latest history

Two years ago, king and queen, mother and father of Princess Jolene, died tragically during their travel to another country.
With the help of the council, regents, and stewards, she sat on the throne and rules the kingdom, accelerating its development with her knowledge.
It seems like with every day since that tragedy, both it and its ruler gets stronger and stronger.
A warning
I will tell you something. If you can, stay away from this city.
And if for some reason you need to get there, don't eat anything. I'm almost completely sure there is something in the food, water, maybe even air, that controls everyone. Changes both their perception and memories.
I know it sounds like ramblings of a madman, but there are some who wake up. Those who try to fight against the princess and her knights. And those who see her for what she truly is... a Witch, and she ruled this city for the last hundred years.

Zetalph is located on the highlands that over the years have been exploited, leaving a land interwoven with small farms and mines.

Happiest city

Even though there is a lot of the pollution caused by factories everywhere, the inhabitants of the city don't seem to mind that. Various programs created by the royal family and the council protect them in many ways and make their lives way easier and safer.
When asked, it seems like everyone here is a patriot, loving their city, country, and princess.

Let's get a plane and start carpet-bombing this place with blue and green. Non-lethal doses, of course.   Has that color just been sucked out of the surrounding lands to fuel the factories? Also, shouldn't the smog be more... rainbow?

First, yes, exploitation of the land has desaturated land here a lot in the past. Luckily, not completely (as the princess balances the losses out). And it really slowed down when they found new sources of Pigments in factories.
And second, I'll have to update that image. It was created before I came up with an idea for colorful smog.
