The First Dymórleshra War

It was in the year of 1348 BGD. A dispute between the Tilor O Irath'Miesdys and the new church military had happened, but it immediately stopped when reports of new creatures which lied ruin to every thing it came across. The Tilor immediately took up arms against the foe, but the foe could not be slain. Only Leiran's sacrifice made it possible to gain intelligence on how to defeat the dreaded enemy.

The first public records of this war happens to be in the Book of Irath, where it describes both the Goddess Rathias creating the Dymórleshra, and the war itself.
While the war did not last for more than a day, the losses were heavy on the Tilor O Irath'Miesdys' side, since there were no visible way to defeat the creatures with swords, spears, or even shields. The creatures did not show any indications that they got hurt when a sword sliced it, not did it seem to have any effect on them as well.

The Conflict

Prelude

Rathias had created two other creatures to eradicate the followers of Irath; The Oxenbeast and The Beast. If Irath had less followers she would be weaken enough for Rathias to kill her, therefore she created had created the Oxen beast, but Leiran had defeated it with the help of Irath.
Rathias knew she needed to keep the Tilor O Irath'Miesdys occupied while she dealt with Irath.

A few decades after the making of the two creatures she planned her revenge. But knew not what to do. In her desperation she carved the stones which a volcano in Northern Agia brought to her. By accident, she cut her finger and smeared it along with her Dark onto the carved figure. But the figure stayed the same, and she tossed it into the lava again.

From the lava a beast arose, dark like the stone she had carved, but with eyes and core like the lava. But the creature did not provide her with any faith, for it was but an empty shell. Yet when Rathias ordered it to go to the south and slay the followers of Irath, it did, and Rathias immediately made a whole army to keep the Tilor occupied.

Deployment

It was during a meeting between the Tilor's seniors and the church military, the first report of a new creature arrived. The Hand of the Tilor, Leiran, felt something was wrong and immediately ordered his men to take up arms and together they marched towards the first reported village who was met with the Dymórleshra.

For three days they marched, hoping the villagers at least had some protections against the enemy, otherwise they would surely be met with a blood bath.
Upon the third day they saw smoke rising from the village, but that was not the sight that frighted them. Two and a half meters tall creatures stood inside the village, tearing the buildings apart, killing anyone who came to close, haunted those who tried to escape.

The Engagement

The battlefield was messy, but Leiran ordered the soldiers to stand in formation between the fleeing villagers and the Dymórleshra. The infantry standing ready with pikes and swords, while archers surrounded the villagers, ready to take aim should any Dymórleshra approach them. The calvary were split up into two groups to flank the Dymorleshra, and have them surrounded. In previous fights this tactic had seem solid against Rathias' creatures.

But they had underestimated their new foe, the Dymórleshras had a brute strength unlike any Dynbodaul, or any other First for that matter.

The calvary proved to be the weakest of the formations, since no weapon worked on the Dymórleshra, that simply tossed the riders to the side, wounding or killing them in the process.

The shields which the infantry proved to have the best effect, since they provided some protections against the Dymórleshra's attacks. And Leiran ordered his men to form a shield wall until they had figured out a way to at least get the villagers somewhere safe or figured out how to kill them.

A girl who change the battle

Leiran suddenly discovered a little girl running away from a Dymórleshra, and he felt compelled to save her. He ordered his Glove, at that time it was a man named Teins, to take over the commando no matter what should happen to him, and sprinted after the girl and the Dymórleshra as fast as he could in his armour.

Several times he tried to stop the Dymórleshra from pursuing the little girl, and protect her. He stopped in front of the Dymórleshra, who simply tossed him aside and broke Leiran's wrist in the process. Leiran tied the shield to his arm with the broken wrist and continued his pursuit as well.

Not before long they stopped at a lake, the creature lashed out again, but was blocked with the shield Leiran held. It was then, Leiran discovered that the creatures eyes and cores looked like lava, and he thought the water might stop the creature. He took the little girl under his arm and ran into the lake. The creature took its chance and lashed out at Leiran, who was unable to block and had a severe wound on the back of his neck, for the creature had lashed open his gorget as if it was butter.

Yet Leiran continued deeper into the lake, and then a Môrwen, a being of the water, helped him by swimming the little girl into safety. Leiran continued into the lake, despite his vision became darker, and suddenly the creature slowed down, the lava in its eyes dimmed and was slowly extinguished, making it a black statue in the lake, and Leiran died at that moment

The Môrwen swam towards Leiran's body, and took of his signet ring and gave it to the girl. He told her to run back to the battlefield and find the safest person to whom she should give the ring and tell him that the creatures would be defeated by large amount of water.

After some persuasion, the little girl ran back and told one of the members what had happened. He then told it to the Glove, who ordered the villagers to run the opposite direction of the lake. The Tilor held the line while waiting for all the villagers to disappear from the Dymórleshra's sight.
After the last villager disappeared, the Glove then ordered his men to lure the Dymórleshra into the lake. Slowly they stepped back so their back pointed towards the lack, and kept walking a few steps backwards, while still holding the line.
Due to the slow process it took them an hour to reach the lake and step into it. All the Dymórleshra walked into the water and was extinguished.

Historical Significance

Legacy

While the losses were great and it was seemingly a major loss for the Tilor, had it not been for Leiran's sacrifice or the Tilor's courage, they would never have figured out how to kill them, which helped immensly in the future battles against the Dymorleshra.

But as legends and stories goes, a romanticied version was made which makes the young boys who are conscripted into the Tilor nowadays, having a wrong idea of how grim the fights of the Tilor can be.

I like how the legends of the battle are used to get recruits years after, only for them to learn the reality of fighting the Dymorleshra.

Wow. A really beautiful article. I love how you were able to make a battle very personal. Really the stuff for heroic sagas. Apart from that, it gives some great insights into your world. And quite apart from that: The picture goes great with it. Top.
