The Creation of Uendar

Dr. Dokuesi is the Haendorian scientist mainly responsible with the creation of the material Uendar. During the days leading up to the experiment leading to the creation of uendar, She made a digital recording to document her concerns and thoughts on the experiment. Due to her reference of the... questionable safety of the experiment, there was much debate as to whether or not it should be made publicly available; however, due to its universal importance, it was published after its recovery.

The finders of this recording had quite the dilemma on their hands, for the mistakes of Dr. Dokuesi are surely not to be repeated in any circumstances, but with this recording, one could easily figure out how to replicate the experiment. Therefore, six copies of the transcripts were published and given to the safehouses of the six largest cities to keep. The results of the experiment and the fact that a particle accelerator were used was covered on worldwide news. If one wishes to experiment with atom fission or subatomic particle reassemblage and they can prove that they have the means to do it, they are required to read a copy of Dr. Dokuesi's findings and to not share it with anyone. Though this process surely has many flaws, it was the best they could do.

Background

After Dr. Dokuesi graduated from university, she led extensive research and planning into the areas of atom fission and fusion. Her crowning project was to make a particle accelerator and to mechanically build new atoms. It took her months to make the plan for the accelerator, but every calculation was precise and exact; however, only after the making of these plans did she realize that something of this magnitude was far beyond her or the Institute's financial power. After a small period of disappointment, she worked even harder. Everyone thought she had recovered and was doing well, but that is truly when her mind broke. However, because her attempt at a coping mechanism was to ignore her lust for her accelerator, nobody noticed until too late.

This is a transcript of the digital recording Dr. Dokuesi made of her experiments in atom-building leading to the creation of uendar.

Day One

Hello, I am Dr. Dokuesi of the Haendorian Institute of Atom Fission. This recording is being made so as to document my progress in my attempt at atom-building. If this works, science will be changed forever. And if it fails, well [pause] there is a chance that I could make a black hole or spatial anomaly but it probably wont happen so lets not talk about that. So anyways, to build atoms, I need to break them first, so I've just begun construction on a particle accelerator which-oh yeah I forgot, so [clears throat] Special thanks to the Daina Wendras Foundation for funding this exploration. [sound of pares shuffling] So anyway, where was I? Oh yeah so the particle accelerator will basically take a few atoms and zoom them around really fast -- like light speed fast -- until it stops and they SMASH together and explode into their subatomic particles and then we'll collect data and try to put them back together if they stay separated. And just in case (also cuz they're like sponsoring it, too) we'll have some Uendroni magicians to hold reality together if we need them to. Also I forgot, the wizards are also infusing the accelerator with magical energy so its extra powerful and it will make the atoms move even faster! Its going to be faster than anything has ever moved before except maybe the Big Bang! So basically the way it's gonna work is that that we're gonna build a giant figure eight tube with tons of power jets lining them. After we seal the tube, we're gonna let in two atoms on opposite parts of the track so that they'll meet in the middle part where one part of the tube goes over the other. Then the jets will activate and circle the atoms through the tube faster and faster until they have reached the maximum speed we can handle. Then, the figure eight will shift so that the tube intersects with itself, and BAM! they hit, and they'll EXPLODE into their subatomic particles. Ohmygod it's gonna be so epic. And so then we'll suck up all the kinetic energy out of the tube so that the atoms can't crash back together on their own. Now most of this will seem to happen instantaneously to us, but when we turn off the kinetic energy, it will hopefully at least slow down. We honestly have no idea if it will work because of the extreme natural forces working against us. This is another reason for the magic, because it specializes in breaking most scientific laws which is really annoying because you just can't do it with logic. Anyways I'm getting off track. So because it's just impossible to make something small enough to actually hold and move the atoms, we're planning to magically project GIGANTIC forms of the subatomic particles into our lab (although it might as well be called a temple with all the magic we're using) anyways, we'll project them to our lab and move the projections and hope it'll move them. Then hopefully we'll have created a new element! Ohmygod I can't believe we're finally starting construction tomorrow! It's gonna be so f**kin' awesome!

Day Two

Okay so hello today I am overseeing the construction of the particle accelerator. Not much is really happening right now, I'm just walking around looking at the jets and making sure everything is aligned right so yeah it's kinda boring. Oh, yeah and because we're gonna use Moon magic, we also have to use moon-materials for the accelerator. Yeah, I know it's really vague and annoying but every element apparently has some magical alignment so we can only really use silver cuz it's Moon-y. It's really been a hitch in the plans because we've had to make some micromesh and also find a way to insulate the silver wires with silver. We actually found a species of archaebacteria that survives on the Moon which makes no sense but apparently it works cuz it's like "Moon-blessed" or whatever, so we grew a huge colony and hyper-fossilized it into oil so we could make this plastic-y rubber stuff. So basically construction that would have taken about two days is gonna take nearly a week. Soo... I'm walking around... looking at the loads of silver everywhere... and everybody's busy... and... okay I thought there would be more to talk about but I guess I'll just see you tomorrow.

Day Three

Hi, it's me again, Dr. Dokuesi. Everything's goin to plan. Nothing really exciting is happening. We tested the jets, and they worked, of course. Actually, the first time they tried them, the jets worked so well they burned a hole in the wall of the testing facility. But turns out that's just because it wasn't Moonsilver, cuz once replaced the wall with it , the silver didn't even mar. I guess that was a nice magic-compatibility lesson, but it's not really lessening the boredom. See ya tomorrow, I guess.

Day Four

Okay, so today we tested the seal of the tube and if it will stay sealed when it shifts form, and it did so that's another check off the list but I mean come on, I've been planning this for years; it's not like I haven't checked these plans a million times. So yeah, done for today.

Day Five

So the accelerator is finally finished! This is really great! So today is testing day and a few minutes ago, we tested all the functions of the accelerator at once: jets, vacuum, tube shift--everything. Now, we're gonna test to see if we can actually smash some atoms with it. Activate in five, four, three, two, one [mechanical sounds] Okay so it's starting up right now, and in a few seconds it'll reach maximum speed and--[extremely loud sound followed by earthquake and profanities spoken by multiple scientists] Whoo-whee! That was quite a doozie! That, listeners, was the fastest anything has ever gone! But that's not all! After we do a procedural check of the accelerator, were gonna actually freeze the particles! This is the moment I have been waiting for all my life! [hyperventilating] Aaaaaahh okay I need to pause this for a moment [shuffling sound; recorder paused] Okay, I'm back, everything's fine... well, not really, but I'm goin' in, as they say [incoherent muttering] [to lab assistants] Okay, this is literally going to make history guys so... let's do this [cheering] Okay [sound of taking in a deep breath] activate in five, f--nevermind just hit the damn button already. [mechanical sounds] [pause of silence] [extremely loud sound followed by earthquake] Okay, what're the stats. [lab assistant] All systems functioning, and the kinetic vacuum is in place. [Dokuesi] Lord Indus, please project the atoms. [Indus] Yes, Doctor [pause] I am searching, but I cannot sense anything within the accelerator.[pause] [Dokuesi] What!?… No! What do the sensors say!? [assistant] they don't show anything either. [Dokuesi] That's not possible! That is not within the laws of science! Search it again! [assistant] But, there isn't-- [Dokuesi] DO IT! ACTIVATE THE JETS! ANYTHING! [assistant] Ma'am, I, I, we cannot do that-- [Dokuesi] PUT THE JETS ON FULL POWER!! [Indus] Doctor, please stop, the jets will overload! Doctor [multiple switches being flipped] DOCTOR! EVERYONE, GET BEHIND ME NOW! [growing sound of jets] ABDIEL, STOP THIS MADNESS! GET BEHIND ME! GET BEHI-- [extremely loud sound] [static]

Aftermath

Due to Dr. Dokuesi's madness, the particle accelerator imploded along with the surrounding facility of nearly a kilometer-wide radius, as well as a power surge ten times the area that knocked all power out within it's range. Thanks to the sorcerer Lord Indus' quick thinking, the other scientists present in the lab were saved; however, Dr. Dokuesi perished. It was thought that everything had imploded into a (mercifully temporary) black hole. However, once investigated, at the center of the crater was found a sphere of Moonsilver no bigger than a nut. The tiny sphere was relocated to a Uendronei facility for study and magical protection. Within the small space Lord Indus could protect was also found the recording. Here, we can see how Dr. Dokuesi's disregard of magic and thirst for knowledge turned into dangerous ignorance and voracious greed. The reason for Dr. Dokuesi's sudden madness is still unknown; perhaps she was never truly sane in the first place. Whatever the reason may have been, such a feat was not attempted again for millennia.
