Principality of Merriton

Unique by it’s religion and foreign policy, the Principality of Merriton is the only nation older than Mallowhurst itself. The first colonists landed in Myranbel, and established a religious safe-haven to worship Eozor. Over time, and even before the next wave of settlers arrived, the Principality was already expanding its influence among the native people. At first an extremely xenophilic state, the Merritonains were welcoming to all those willing to convert to Eozor. This changed after a chaste Eozorian shaman was perverted by local heretics into founding a sect of Eozor (discussed more in religion document). As a result, the Principality exiled the shaman and all remotely associated with the heresy, enforced strict border protection, and consolidated purity within the Eozorian religion. The Principality is also currently losing a war against the neighboring Green Horde, when Prince Inadi refused demands to cede disputed territory to the Horde, citing religious reasons. This has caused Merriton to fall on hard times, with taxes high, food scarce, and crime rampant. Governmental duties are handled entirely by the Eozorian church, and some in the nation are starting to question the ideals that brought them into such dire straits. Rumors are circulating about a hidden Yttrium mining operation, the first discovery of the rare metal in decades.
