Marcia Aufidia
The founder of Marcia's Miscellany. Born somewhere off the coast of Aphygia.
She was an unusually prudent hero for her time. Instead of simply doing what she was paid to do, she tenaciously sought the root of every problem, and pursued her marks well beyond what was required of her. Likewise, she was known to be exceptionally good at revenge; nobody who defeated her could enjoy their victory for long. For the people of her era, there was no sight more unnerving than a captured Aufidia.
Aufidia was famously rejected when she tried to become a god upon her death. So she tried again, arranging for her own resurrection and continuing her adventures as a mortal. She founded the Miscellany's famous resurrection pact, by which her crew could keep on adventuring through multiple eras. Aufidia has lived for about 50 of the past 500 years.

She was resurrected in the 8th century by Iatres Vole, for the purpose of joining the fight against Ornity. She put him on hold; it had been centuries since she'd lived in Agrophon for any real duration, and she wanted to explore the new world to figure out what exactly is happening.
After six months of travelling, Aufidia finally agreed to join the fight. She even resurrected her old friend Tullus Curtius, so that the remains of Marcia's Miscellany could go on one last adventure. Iatres was thrilled until he discovered that she had joined the other side. As a soldier of the Duumvirate, she was devastating.
It's almost disappointing to hear Aufidia preach her values: they seem to be "might makes right," old-school simplicity. Her adventures taught her that she was better than everyone else, and she knows that lesson by heart, so she believes in whatever metric puts her on top.
Even as Aufidia reveals her deeper motives, she seems trapped in her century of origin. The Duumvirate, itself lost in the past, managed to appeal to her.
Despite everything, Aufidia really was exceptional in a lot of ways. And even though the Duumvirate loved her, it was stripping away her greatest qualities from the moment it recruited her. Aufidia no longer had time to pursue every problem to its root--all she could do was fight and cause misery where it was immediately needed. She no longer had the ethos to lead other adventurers--even her oldest friends were estranged. She couldn't even scare people anymore--not even Iatres.
She finally realized that she needed to change. Her death in Dacrynesus was her last. She broke the loop, and after so many failures, she finally became divine.
Marcia Aufidia, The Sunken Soldier, was still evolving as a deity when Monarch took over, so she had to lay low. Monarch doesn't see her as a threat; she may still be frighteningly powerful, but she'll never be a hero again.
