Guild Master Gregory Harkin

Guild Master Gregory Harkin

Gregory Harkin is the Guild Master of the Blacksmith's Guild. After decades of work at the forge, himself, he assumed the position four years ago when the previous Guild Master died under suspicious circumstances. A shrewd businessman with no scruples, Gregory has brought the Guild to new heights. He knows exactly how far he can push his Guild Members without breaking them and has no qualms about laying down the law. That being said, he is keen to see that wealth is distributed, and as such, since taking control of the Guild, Gregory has lowered the percentage that the Guild takes from every cut, making him a very popular Guild Master.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Gregory is broad - weathered, calloused skin pulled taut over bulging muscles. His work has taken it's toll on him: his hands and arms are covered in burn scars and his right eye is a milky-white, left sightless after a hot coal flew into his face. Gregory keeps himself well-maintained, his hair brushed and braided, his beard combed, but he prefers practicality to pomp and his clothes tend to be simple.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Gregory was born to a long line of blacksmiths. His grandfather came to Isomor with the original settlers to ply his trade and did exceedingly well. As such, Gregory had a well-established forge and storefront when he took over his father's business. While no Guild Master, at the time, Gregory was looked to for advice from other blacksmiths as his skill was more or less renown across Vesmos. It is said that if Gregory can't make it, it can't be made. His impressive work and natural leadership, along with a sharp mind for business, earned him the attention of the Guild Master at the time, who took him as a sort of apprentice. Thus, when the Guild Master died, Gregory was the natural choice to assume the position.

Education

Gregory's school was his father's forge and his family's shop, run by his mother. He learned the trade of blacksmithing from his father and from his mother, he learned to count and read - a rarity among those in his profession.

Morality & Philosophy

Gregory grew up in a harsh world ruled by the markets. The laws of capitalism taught him a certain brutality, and as such, he can be ruthless when dealing with even his own Guild Members. That being said, he is business savvy and known that discontented workers only cause problems. He may be hard and cutthroat but no one would call him cruel, and his goal is for the prosperity of all, not just himself.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Gregory wants to see the prosperity of the Blacksmith's Guild in Vesmos  To him, that means the prosperity and security of all of the Guild's members. He views himself as responsible for the wellbeing of the Guild members and holds firm in the belief that what is good for the workers will be good for the Guild.

Virtues & Personality perks

With a mind as strong as his arm and a keen eye for value, Gregory is well-suited as a businessman. He has a strong work ethic and a cautious demeanor that serves him well in the cutthroat world of Vesmos politics. He is a charismatic leader that has won the loyalty of those who work for him with his earnest, no-nonsense approach.

Vices & Personality flaws

Gregory has little faith in those around him and is thus very bad at delegating. He tends to overwork himself and often bites off more than he can chew. For this reason, he is perpetually exhausted and more than a little irritable, on a general basis.

Gregory is the Guild Master of the Blacksmiths' Guild and a famous blacksmith.
