King Corvus Lydes
King Corvus Lydes
King Corvus Lydes is the king of Vesmos, though the title is barely more than nominal. He has all but given up in his struggle for power with the seven Merchant Guilds. In fact, he rarely ever spends time in Isomor, choosing to stay in the country's true capital, Stonewall, even though the country's economy runs out of Isomor. His only son, Prince Cailian Lydes, is set to inherit the throne after him, but in spite of his advanced age, Corvus shows no indication of retiring.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Corvus is a stately, dignified man, in spite of his age. Though the years show on him, he is still considered attractive, and he has a liveliness to him. He dresses in the gaudy colors and expensive fabrics.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Corvus was born in the palace and groomed for leadership since his birth. He spent his youth at court, going on hunts and wooing various maidens. His father tried to brace him for the fight he would face against the The Merchant Guilds of Vesmos, for the duties he'd hold as king, but when he assumed the throne, Corvus found himself wholly unprepared. The first year of his reign was turmoil for the court, an absolutely mad scramble for power. By the time he was prepared to truly seize power, the Guilds were so far ahead he felt like it was a moot point.
When he was thirty, he was married to Duchess Marianne Blake. Within a year, they had a son - Prince Cailian Lydes. With little say in running the country, Corvus poured his energy into fatherhood. He was extremely hands-on in the education of his son and would often spend hours at a time playing with him in the royal garden. As Cailian grew, the two would go on hunting trips or travel around the country together. Then, they had their second child - a girl named Lelia. Corvus was never far from her side, just as attentive and loving.
Education
Corvus was trained by tutors hired by his father. Always more interest in adventures or women, he was never exceptionally attentive in his studies.
Morality & Philosophy
King Corvus cares about his family above all else. For years he struggled knowing that he was more or less a failure of the king in the eyes of his people and a puppet in the eyes of the Guilds. He found new purpose in his marriage to Marianne and especially with the birth of Cailian.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Corvus just wants to make a good life for his family. He hopes to at least make things as easy for his son's transition to power and is focused on keeping his family comfortable, regardless of where the politics of Vesmos end up.
Virtues & Personality perks
Corvus is a loving father. He is magnanimous, energetic, and very amicable. He is intelligent and wiser in his old age than he has been in his youth.
Vices & Personality flaws
Corvus was not an extremely competent ruler. He was not well-versed in politics and ultimately lost what little power had been consolidated under the crown. He let his initial loss defeat him and never found it in him to stand back up, after that.
