The Sea-Sworn

The Sea-Sworn are what the disciples of Acionna call themselves. They are not an organized church so there is no real structure, much less a hierarchy or written code of beliefs. Each believer pursues their faith in their own way and has a highly personal relationship to Acionna. Most of her worshippers live in or have spent some amount of time in the Howling Plains. Statues and murals dedicated to her can be found among the ruins in the Howling Plains, tracing her worship back centuries and indicating that at one time, it was indeed an organized religion.

Mythology & Lore

Most of the mythology of Acionna has been lost. There are ancient texts that mention stories of her rescuing drowning sailors and sinking ships. But for every benevolent story, there is one of her bearing down vengeance on those who have earned her wrath. She is said to have control of the sea and it's creatures, able to cause it and them to act on her will.

Divine Origins

The Sea-Sworn have existed for centuries, and the origin of the religion have been lost to the ravages of war and time.

Tenets of Faith

There are very few agreed-upon tenets of those that worship Acionna. The only point of consensus is that they must spread word of her.

Worship

The disciples of Acionna have a deep, personal connection to her and all choose to worship in their own way. Some make ritual prayers daily, others simply talk to her and pray to her in a more casual manner. All, however, take regular trips to open, flowing water to bathe and pray.

Priesthood

There is no real organization to the Sea-Sworn, anymore. At one point it is clear there were temples with priests and an actual hierarchy, but they were all but wiped out when Aheila was settled. The remnants of the religion are rebuilding but are disorganized and scattered.
