House of Wonder
The House of Wonder is an ornate tower in the Sea Ward of Waterdeep, located on Flint Street and Pharra's alley - the latter named for the first mistress of the temple. It's dedicated to the faithful of Mystra, with her holy symbol picked out in mosaics upon the courtyard cobbles. The tower is in the centre of a circle of stars with red mist flowing toward the entrance to the tower.
Purpose / Function
Besides Blackstaff Tower, this is the foremost academy of magic in Waterdeep. But it is also a temple and a place of worship. This means that both clerics and wizards are plenty here any anyone seeking this kind of knowledge is welcome, though donations to the temple are appreciated if someone wants access to more than basic things.
History
The temple was erected in 1215 DR and has stood proudly as a place of worship until Mystra's presumed death that triggered the Spellplague. It continued to function as an academy, however, and with Mystra's return in 1479 DR, it has resumed its function as temple.
It was nearly destroyed in 1479 as the then Master of the academy, Rhinzen Halnian, mistook three students for devils and called on a meteor storm. As it was revealed that the event was triggered by hallucinations from a haepthum addiction, Rhinzen was relieved of his duties, effective immediately.
