The City of Marble

Sonne. A shining gleaming city carved from marble taken from ruins of old empires. The massive gates, of which there are eight, beckons in hundreds of merchants and travelers. Its origins are shrouded in mystery and the exact date of its founding have long since entered legend and myth. It was once the seat of an empire, some say. Regardless of its origins the city of Sonne is one of the largest in Iada and the seat of one its most powerful nations.

Government

The Royal Mayor of Sonne runs the day to day affairs of the city. The position is also one of the most prestigous in the entire kingdom and is usually given to the sons of great lords of the land as a favor.
In addition to the Mayor a council and exchequer set the numerous trade laws and restrictions that the city enforces.

Defences

The outer walls, the Reysian walls, are the most recent additional to the walls. They are a beastly fifteen meters thick with eight bastions to guard the eight gates. The middle of the three walls, the Frundine Walls, are largely neglected. They are merely ten meters thick and several gates are left open with porticullis removed for ease of travel. Finally one comes to the inner walls, the Yresian Walls, the mightiest of the bulwarks. With only two gates to compromise it, and being thirty meters thick, these walls have never been breached in their history.

Infrastructure

Over the course of generations the city of Sonne has become a gem unlike any other in Iada. Its roads are well maintained and smooth and boasts a functional sewer system. Recently restored aqueducts bring water into the city, and several massive cisterns are distributed across the city.
In terms of industry, water wheels and windmills help produce goods and grind foods respectively. Large courtyards are set up to offer places to talk, eat, trade, and sell. The largest of these squares are often set aside for the use of the Fair when it comes around.

Architecture

Most of the city is constructed from re-purposed marble into a style of architecture not seen outside of the city.

Geography

The city of Sonne is constructed around several large hills. The largest of the hills is home to Royal Palace, the rest being home to noble palaces and a royal barracks. The rest of the city lies upon the slopes of the hills and the plains around it.
