The Horror of the Shadowfell

One of the five Eldritch Horrors, and known rival of the Lolth, the Spider Queen, Kend'gnas is a destructive beast, made from an amalgamation of flesh and eyes to vaguely create the visage of a creature. Towering over all creatures in the Shadowfell, where it lurks, Kend'gnas sheer power slowly infects the land, willing creatures back to life, infecting them with his feral malice. Known as possibly the first necromancer, making him an enemy of Avalore, the Goddess of Death and her servant, Lolth, Kend'gnas has made powerful enemies but has the might to rival them.
Kend'gnas' influence in the Shadowfell had slowly spread over the millennia after his creation, pushing Lolth, the Shadowfell's current ruler, back from her own domain. Unable to cope, Kend'gnas forced Lolth's hand, manipulating the drow so that she enter the Material Plane, and siphon the arcane energy of those she had manipulated. Destroying a drow settlement, but eventually stopped, Lolth had gained enough power to rival Kend'gnas, and the two have been vying for the aid of mortals that attempt to communicate with the Shadowfell, in a careful chess game to be the true rulers of the realm.
