Ashen Blackhaw

The Ashen Blackhaw is a rare plant found only on Calphia Island. A dark grey flower with golden pistil in the center, and even more curiously its stems and leaves are a darkened black.  If the small flower is picked the petals become warm to the touch, not hot enough to cause any harm just a radiating warmth. The same however can not be said for the sap inside the petals if cut the sap in the flower becomes boiling hot, hot enough to leave a scar if in contact with skin. This property of boiling hot sap is often utilized in the funerals of the Calphians who live on the island. It is also often picked to help the Calphians keep warm in winter. The flowers can not be kept in water, as the flower will boil the water causing it to die faster than normal flowers. However, if a piece of the stem is cut off and transplanted into the soil from Calphia a new flower will begin to bloom. The flower also has an extremely unique poison property, if the petals are ingested, it burns the consumer alive from the inside out.

Ecology and Habitats

Found on Calphia Island, the Ashen Blackhaw is a resilient flower, that flourishes in the heat of the Black Peak Summits volcanic eruption. It seems to be the only thing on the entire island that can survive being covered in magma. Even when the plant is uprooted and transported to other continents, it has to stay in soil from the island or its slowly decays over time.

Biological Cycle

The Ashen Blackhaw plant typically lives for about two years and in the fall the flower falls to the ground smoldering harmlessly and in the spring a new flower is regrown.
