Mosslyn

Mosslyn was an unassuming halfling woman, though from a young age she knew she was special. It is unknown when she discovered her inborn talent as a Witch, though it is known that she quickly ensnared a oafish, brutish halfling by name of Bruce to be her husband. Perhaps she hexed him into it. Who knows?   What is known is the effect Mosslyn would have upon the Sovereign Isles through her six children: Rosslyn, Yocelyn, Gosslyn, Cosslyn, Fossilyn, and Jocelyn; all of them Witches like their mother, and some of them Sparks to boot.

The Tragedy of Witch Mosslyn the Mother

Unfortunately for poor Mosslyn, she would live to see three of her children die before her, and another one be exiled to Akratia for her status as a Spark. The first to die was Yocelyn, captured by Templars of the Pentarchy when she and her older sister Rosslyn were causing mischief in the western woods of the Sovereign Isles. Yocelyn sacrificed herself to allow her older sister to escape capture, and before Rosslyn could muster any support to free her sister, the Templars had enacted the church's violent justice upon Yocelyn for her status as a Spark.   Of course, killing a family member does very little, in the metaphysical sense, to prevent Sparks, and the oldest three sisters: Rosslyn, Gosslyn, and Cosslyn, along with their mother Mosslyn, took their sister's execution poorly and declared war upon the Western Pentarchy. Their curses and hexes would plague not only the land, but the Lord High Templar and his soldiers for years before a truce was declared between Mosslyn's family and the Templar arm of the Pentarchy. In that conflict, dozens of Templars and Lanterns were ravaged by the Witches and their familiars, hundreds more peasants felt the wrath of witch kind, and Cosslyn, the youngest of the rampaging witches went missing. At the truce, the Witches accused the Templars of executing Cosslyn, but the Templars rebuffed the claim, protesting that they knew not what had become of the youngest Witch.   In return for the truce, Mosslyn and her family agreed to fade into the forests and not trouble the lands any further. In return, the Templars would resist the inclination to capture and execute the lot of them. It was at the tail end of this conflict that Mosslyn's last daughter, Jocelyn, was born.   Some years later, Mosslyn's second to youngest daughter, Fossilyn, fell into a pit and was accidentally buried to death.

Exile of Jocelyn

Jocelyn, growing up with stories from her eldest sister of the "Great Witch War", could not help but reveal herself to society when she had grown, and was thus captured and exiled to Akratia.
