The Rila Guard
Design
The design was built from an oak structure initially before the Moonlit Ravens used strong magics with the aid of the Stonesingers to pull lava from the ground and create the structure. The lava melted what oak was present without magical enchantment. What remained was a cooled obsidian keep that was then carved out by the stonesingers primarily leading the process. Most of the rooms are asymmetric or unique in their shape and flow. It has not been uncommon for the ruling family of each generation to try out multiple rooms before settling on one as their primary domicile.
Sensory & Appearance
The Rila Guard is a mix of dread, black, fear, and intimidation mixed with arcane awe, artistic inspiration, and Victorian flair. The black of the keep varies in spots depending on the age and hotness from the lava. Artists have offered large coffers to have time to stay inside and replicate the varied black glass into their own works of art.
Tourism
Visits into the Rila Guard are not open to the public traditionally. For those that enter, usually there is an escort of persons of note such as: nobles, high ranking guild leaderships, government officials, and those invited specifically by the residing person(s) of the royal family. The previous Rasery Family would mostly extend invites to nobles that favored their continued reign. The current king, Izel Whitekeep, has started inviting a larger variety of people including notable adventuring groups and holy persons of the various Gods.
The most common excitement of visiting the Rila Guard is for the opportunity to peer through fortress keep from the inside out. The obsidian glass used to create the windows and external protection of the fortress paint the outside in various shades of stygian black. The light coming from the outside into the Rila Guard is a glowing black with hints of purple surfacing at hours. Over time and due to the color of the natural lighting, the Keep has accrued various light emitters from various artists and inventors in order to bring the Black Rage to hopefully a Black Calm.
During the visits, the guests usually have only stayed for a meal or celebration. However for those using travel from great lengths, the keep offers its hospitality with the Black Beds. The Black Beds are cozy pockets of space that were created from trapped air as the obsidian cooled on the Rila Guard. The rooms are hidden throughout the keep but are usually below the floor acting as small pods for rest. The majority of them are filled with deep mattresses and a light system from Islamp to provide light when the pod is closed for rest. The stay has been described as relaxing due to the complete darkness of the Black Beds.
