Parsa
The continent we reside on. It is also the name of an ancient empire that spread across these lands thousands of years ago.
The ancient Parsan Empire was ruled by High Elves. Today, people look back and think of it as a time of peace and prosperity – the good old days. They built an Empire based on ideals of balance and stability. Their rulers, being elves, reigned for centuries. Expansion was rarely through conquering – they welcomed all peaceable peoples into the fold. They did not demand adherence to their religion, which consisted of a pantheon of gods under the Supreme Lord Ahura Mazda from whom all elves are descended. They did not install their own rulers over the kingdoms within their influence, but rather collected a tax for the creation of a military that protected the lands for vicious beasts within and hostile empires without. They had a postal service and public education, and magic was taught and used freely. It was indeed a time of flourishing.
What is left of civilized life in the known world is largely the surviving remnants of the old Parsan society. The gods and festivals, cultural practices and calendar, are all inherited from that lost age. Tyre has been the stronghold of this society, its hot springs keeping it habitable through the centuries of frozen darkness. Other small kingdoms, like Shaharistan and Migval are descended from the fractured remains of Old Parsa, though they don't tend to identify as Parsan today, as they are competing with New Parsa for control over the newly explorable wilds of the continent.
