Endomic

Endomic has without a doubt been the single most important and enduring language in the history of Ethros. Since the Age of Stones, Endomic has been the voice given to the elements. Religious scholars theorize that the world was sung into being using a more ancient dialect of Endomic. Despite the fact that over the last 400 or so years, the language has faded. Those who know even fragments of it, are held in high regard.   Scholars estimate that the popularity of the language declined after the Age of Wizards and the elven infighting. Few enough wizards existed before the war, and fewer still had a true mastery of the language. Sources speculate about unaccounted for wizards, suggesting there could be fluent elven wizards living in seclusion.   Scholars at the university in Sovos reason that the magic used now is a derivative of its Endomic parent. Merely a fraction of the true power found in each word of the real language. While it's possible to learn the language still, not even everyone who learns it has the will to exert the proper influence. Primary accounts suggest that the words convince the elements to act accordingly, and to command the elements, the speaker's will must be unbendable.   Fragments of words have been recovered from burial sites, or found mostly worn away from runestones. It is believed that the dwarves maintain a small collection of words in their deepest vaults, but considering few dwarves are magic users, it has little value to them. It is known that some noblemen who have a reputation as collectors possess some fragments as well.   The gods that exist now are not the same as those who existed in the Age of Stones. Every god that exists now, was picked from someone who had a mastery of Endomic and was deemed fitting by some higher creator. While we don't know who this creator might've been, their marks are plain enough to see. Each god was chosen as though they were tailored to the element they represent. Although a new god has not been picked since the end of the Age of Wizards.   Many have dedicated their lives to the study of Higher Endomic. Lower Endomic is considered the magic that is practiced in the current era. Higher Endomic would be the speaking of the language and exertion of a will to achieve an effect. Scholars beyond count have delved into the deepest parts of the world, places that even a dwarf would hesitate to enter. There are far fouler things in this world than we've been led to believe. This is evidenced by the sheer number of graves without bodies in Sovos. The Endomic department at the university has an entire graveyard dedicated to those who were lost in the search of knowledge.   "Speak with the authority of a god." -Author Unknown
