The Obsidian Bank

The Obsidian Bank is likely the single most important and influential institution in modern Ethros. Nearly a gold pieces flow through the vaults of The Obsidian Bank annually. It is well known that every major city has their own bank and money lender, but who do they come to when they need a loan?   The Obsidian Bank loans to people from all parts of life. If you're a merchant and you need to buy a ship, you go to them. If you're a priest looking to open a new temple, you go to them. Even princes and ambitious lords go to the bank looking for financial support. All the matters from the bank's perspective, is numbers.   If you fail to pay back The Obsidian Bank, they will first send someone to talk with you. If you either fail to come to an arrangement, or fail to make payment, the next person to visit will be less polite. This cycle will continue until either the debt has been repayed or the defaulter is dead.

Origins

The Obsidian Bank got its humble origins in Boralia in the city of Borallis. It was first constructed out of the sheer obsidian cliff faces that border the city. Due to the amount of spice that passes through the city, it became necessary for some merchants to store their wares in a more protected place. As a result they stored their spices in the vaults. Over time spice turned to gold and the bank became what it is today. These days they still reside on the edge of the city, but it's much more grand than it was during its founding. A great canal runs through the city right up to the bank itself. The building is constructed entirely out of black brick with gold accents. Giant engraved, black steel doors protect the main entrance.

Internal Organization

The Obsidian Bank is managed by a board of 7 overseers. It is unknown how these overseers are selected, and they are largely kept anonymous. There is only one voice of the council, and he is simply known as Minister H'teh. Arranging a meeting with the council is extremely difficult, generally the applicant must either have some special permission, or be someone of high rank, like a prince.   "Who do you think the banks go to when they need money?"
