Island Elves

The Island Elves are a sub-race of Wood Elves found exclusively in the Innsegall Islands west of the Tuathalba.
The Island Elves are much like their racial cousins, the Wood Elves. These island-based elves love the sea and sailing as much as they love the land and woods. The hearts of Island Elves are torn by their master the forest and their mistress the sea. They long to live with both.
Each Island Elf must return to the sea once every three human years to submerge themselves in the ocean for an extended period and renew their connection to the watery mistress.
Some Island Elves love the sea so much they do not return to land and become mer people.
