Othrym of Brythonkeld

Prince Othrym , the Sparrowhawk

"Many a legend has been born on the battlefield, and many a good soul has died there. Call me foolish perhaps, but I would rather drink to the health of my friends by the hearth than toast their deeds over a pyre."   —Tidfrith, Reliquist of Thisby
A great warrior king needs but three things—a saint or spirit to guide them to glory, a bard to sing of that glory to the world, and an heir to ensure their glory will never die. Othric Whiteblade, having won glory enough to fill a hundred songs, has now turned his eye to the matter of legacy, and rumor has it that he will soon declare his eldest son Othrym to be tanist to the vast kingdom of Brythonkeld. That is not to suggest that anyone will be surprised to see the mantle passed to Othrym; Othric has made no pretenses as to which of his three children he favors. Having trained all his life in the arts of warfare and statecraft, Othrym has earned not only his father's respect but that of many a war duke and thegn. From his exploits on the battlefield to his courtship of Princess Marsaili of Myrlothia, Othryn is a son any king would be proud to have as tanist. But after a recent rout of a rebel thegn's army, rumor has begun to spread that Othryn has been injured, and is now recovering from either an ill-fated battlefield wound or—far more concerningly—some kind of battle-shock, perhaps even cowardice...
