Bane, the Strife Emperor

God of War and Conquest

Description

Bane is the evil god of war and conquest. Heavily militaristic nations serve him and conquer in his name. He is also the favoured god among tribes of goblinoids. His follower devout themselves to various combat practices to ensure they are always ready for battle. Tyrannical leaders pay homage to him and evil fighters and paladins serve him by inspiring fear in his enemies.   Following his tenets, Bane expects his followers to become experts in their preferred style of combat, asserting themselves over others and using their superiority to become a source of fear to those around them, while never succumbing to that emotion themselves. Using this fear, they should seek out positions of power and secure these positions by severely punishing those would would seek to unseat them, further securing the conquests they persue.  

Tenets of The Strife Emperor

  • Never allow your fear to gain mastery over you, but drive it into the hearts of your foes.
  • Punish insubordination and disorder.
  • Hone your combat skills to perfection, whether you are a mighty general or a lone mercenary.
 

Piety Abilities

Bane's Devotee

Piety 3+ Bane trait
You gain the ability to cast Wrathful Smite with this trait. Bane's blessing manifests as a blood-red glow around your weapon, causing it to shed dim light in a 5ft. radius until the spell ends. When you cast this spell this way, it does not require your concentration. You may cast this spell in this way a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.  

Bane's Votary

Piety 10+ Bane trait
You gain the ability to cast Fear with this trait, requiring no material components. When you cast this spell this way, it does not require your concentration. Once you cast this spell in this way, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.  

Bane's Disciple

Piety 25+ Bane trait
Countless battles and vicious visions have given you focus. You have advantage on saving throws against bring charmed or frightened.  

Bane's Champion

Piety 50+ Bane trait
You can increase your Strength or Charisma score by 2 and also increase your maximum for that score by 2.  

History

The Prime Millenia

As the Destroyer Gods began to exert their influence across Albion, Bane looked to the efforts of the others to best exert his will. As Grummsh and Zehir introduced the orcs, goblinoids and yuan-ti to Albion, Bane looked to martial them, alongside other impressionable groups to better cultivate war across the world. His goal was to have his followers complete a conquest of the entire planet and become the most-worshiped deity on Albion.  

The Age of Ascension

His aspect lead powerful, united army across the planet. It was later felled in battle by Erathis, the Lawbearer.   To Be Confirmed.  

The Post-Aspect Era (The Era of Restoration)

Since the end of The Aspect Wars, while Bane's influence certainty diminished, his goals have remained the same. He continues to seek out individuals and groups seeking to conquer and rule and guide them into doing so in his name. He still hopes one day to become to most worshipped deity on Albion, primarily to become the most powerful among the Creator and Destroyer Gods, but also to amass enough influence to take revenge on Erathis after their last battle during The Aspect Wars.

Places of Worship

  • The Auchendow Barracks. The home and training ground of Auchendow's army. Inside, a temple to Bane, the Strife Emperor is used by many of the soldiers.
