Tiamat, the Scaled Tyrant

Goddess of wealth, Greed and Vengence

Description

Tiamat is the evil goddess of wealth, greed, and envy. She is the patron of chromatic dragons and those whose lust for wealth overrides any other goal or concern. Typically, this includes greedy merchants and nobles, but can more seriously include cults dedicated to The Dragon Queen, who would see her retuned to the world from her prison in Avernus.   Following her tenets, Tiamat commands her follower to accrue as much gold and wealth as they possibly can in homage to her own godly hoard. She expects them to take this wealth for themselves from those who don't have the strength to protect their own as she see those people as unworthy of the riches they process. Finally, The Scaled Tyrant expects her worshippers to act as she would when the target of misdeeds, by punishing those who would stand against them with draconic ferocity.

Tenets of The Scaled Tyrant

  • Hoard wealth, acquiring much and spending little. Wealth is its own reward.
  • Forgive no slight and leave no wrong unpunished.
  • Take what you desire from others. Those who lack the strength to defend their possessions are not worthy to own them.

Piety Abilities

Tiamat's Devotee

Piety 3+ Tiamat trait
As a devotee of Tiamat, a portion of her draconic resilience has been bestowed onto you. You gain the ability to cast Absorb Elements with this trait. As you do, the elemental power swirls round your body, causing you to emanate dim light in a 5ft. radius in the colour related to the damage absorbed (green for acid and poison, light blue for cold, orange for fire and dark blue for lightning) until the spells ends. You may cast this spell in this way a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Constitution is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.

Tiamat's Votary

Piety 10+ Tiamat trait
Through Tiamat, you have gained a deep insight into the nature of desire. When you gain this trait, she gifts you with a 'Chromatic Gem' and you gain the ability to cast Incite Greed, using the 'Chromatic Gem' as the material component. The gem is worth 300GP and takes on the appearance you choose and can be housed in a piece of jewellery, however all gems reflect light across the full spectrum of colour, making them instantly recogniseable to those who know of their existence. Once you cast this spell in this way, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting modifier for this spell.

Tiamat's Disciple

Piety 25+ Tiamat trait
Having proven yourself to The Scaled Tyrant, echoes of the dragon queen's might linger within you, and you can call on them to inspire fear in those who stand against you. You gain the ability to use your bonus action to polymorph into a 'Draconic Disciple of Tiamat' (see stat block below). Any equipment you are holding or carrying merges into your new form. You remain in this form until you use a bonus action to revert to your true form. You automatically revert after 1 hour, if you fall unconscious, drop to 0 hit points, or die. When you revert to your true form, you return to the number of hit points you had before you transformed. However, if you revert as a result of dropping to 0 hit points, any excess damage carries over to your normal form. Once you use this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.

History

The Prime Millenia

Once she discovered Bahamut's influences on the realms, Tiamat took it upon herself to continue their eternal conflict in the skies of Albion, by bringing her chromatic dragons into the world to terrorise the land. The battles for territory and supremacy between these two groups of creatures caused chaos for Albion's earliest people, forcing many to abandon their homes when these new beasts laid their claim to where their lairs would later be built.

The Age of Ascension

To Be Confirmed.

The Post-Aspect Era (The Era of Restoration)

At the end of The Aspect Wars, and the death of The Aspect of Tiamat, The Scaled Tyrant returned to her original goals of attempting to return to the material plane and accruing all the wealth Albion has to offer. Her worshippers help with this by hoarding their own wealth which might one day become her whilst others seek out ways to free her from her prison permanently.
