Anima-Mortelle Wars

The Anima-Mortelle Wars are a millennia-long conflict fought between the realm of Mortelle and the sister realms of Anima. The Anima-Mortelle Wars saw a number of styles of warfare and combat implemented by both sides (including but not limited to espionage, trench warfare, weapons of mass destruction, preternatural interference, curses, hexes, enchantments), resulting in both a cold war and a preternatural arms race at different points in the conflict's history.

Historical Significance

The Anima-Mortelle Wars began with a surprise attack at Offing of Lumieres Morte known as:
The Battle of Lumieres Mortes (3-5 Darklis, 13 LL)
  • Fought against Mortelle Manx King, Orgetorix of Caer Llion, this first outing of recently formed Sealgaírí Fola / Uxores Mortis is the first instance of Mortelle forces deliberately invading the Sister realms of Anima. Anima’s forces, still in their infancy, are outnumbered 4 to 1.Ending in victory, the two day battle resulted in the decimation of Caer Llion’s 1,000-strong force despite the surprise attack and was subsequently followed by the founding and fortification of the cities of Terremorte and Inmortui by Mathghamhan Sauvage I and younger brother Treasach Sauvage I, leading to a massive influx in the Inmortui population of Avalon.

Battle of Malicia (11 Aafje, 14 LL)
  • King Orgetorix returns to Anima with a 2,000-strong force by way of the Offing of Lumières Mortes, apparently guided by a mysterious black unicorn. Orgetorix’s fleet breaks water just off Mer de Eaux Mortes’ in Colluvia’s mining district of Malicia. The House of Alluvium stands shoulder-to-shoulder with House Rivière to hold the city, but Orgetorix’s army breaks over the city of industry like a great quenching tidal wave and an estimated 650 souls are cut down before forces are able to mobilize on Colluvia. Many of the dead return to Anima as Inmortui. 16 hours into the battle Rhamanthus Enguerre An Imortui is the first of the reinforcements to arrive from Esse with an aerial force of 50 Sealgaírí Fola astride grand dragonflies, earning the title “Lord of the Dragonflies” after facing Orgetorix’s mysterious right hand in single combat. His appearance is followed one hour later by the entire 50-strong force of the Uxores Mortis. The armies of Anima manage to turn the tide and send Orgetorix’s fleet running, but the body count is shockingly high and when the smoke of battle clears, Memoria scholars note that the land has been scarred by some previously unprecedented form of magic. Loyal Mortelle transplant Angharad Goldenhand Seilegh offers her castle, Goldenhand, and the field on which it lies as a staging area for large battles with a high possibility of civilian casualty.
