Magner Conflicts
The Conflict
Prelude
The Conflicts begin in the year 10,430 Gan Stad/Le Marasme with The Sleeping Sickness of Aisling Milis: After rumors spread of a darkness seeping into Avalon and Broceliande Magner Bane Mallacht, L’Inimite, makes his reborn presence known by casting the Sleeping Sickness of Aisling Milis using melted malicorn as a spellcasting focus. The Sleeping Sickness most notably traps several Animists who drank from water other than the pure water of the Lake or Broceliande’s rivers in their own dream space - the malicorn makes the curse so strong that many sleep to death over the course of the next several decades.
The Ord an tSnáthaid muster a special task force of Anima's brightest minds to investigate the preternatural malady and its cause, employing members of the Memoriam Inanimatam, Guthanna An Domhain, and Reminiscentia alongside the Sealgairi Fola and Uxores Mortes.
For the next four years the unit known as Découverte (Common trans. “Discovery”) attempts to follow the trail of The Revenant. There are no sightings during this time period and the trail goes cold in Anthesis of 10.434, remaining that way until Eucastast of 10.434 when the Revenant is sighted off the coast of Nomen Nescio returning to Mortelle. Découverte pursues and is ambushed in the Battle of The Red Sunrise.
Historical Significance
NOTABLE BATTLES
The Battle of the Red Sunrise (23 Ostosia, 10.434 GS/LM)Battle of Gilganis (12 Nepenthe, 10.434 GS/LM)
- While pursuing L'Inimite following a sighting off the coast of Nomen Nescio the special operations unit known as Découverte (Common trans. “Discovery”) is ambushed by a 200 strong force of mindless undead conducted by none other than Saxon Seath/Magner Mallact himself.
- In the months after making his presence known, Manger Mallacht sets his sights on a mysterious relic from the Tower of Éadóchas in the mountains of Gilganis. It is said that this relic has the power to summon creatures from another realm. After his homunculi set the city ablaze and outnumber the 200 strong army of Gilganis, Manger Mallacht is said to have fought one on one with Aajfe Christobel An Locha, descendant of King Agast Afanen An Locha I, Lady of Gilganis and protector of The Relic of Éadóchas. After his defeat, she and her people seek protection in the mountains of Gilganis.
Battle of Chanteur ( 25 Síoraí, 10.434 GS/LM)
- Enraged by his failure, Manger Mallacht sets out to take the city of Chanteur, securing a major foothold for him in Avalon and a tactic to draw out Aajfe by killing her brother Kiaan Lumiere An Locha and his wife Arifa Songbird, the Lady of Chanteur. Manger Mallacht attacks during the Festival of Gaieté, a 7 day celebration of music and dance. He traps the people and visitors of Chanteur within the palace walls for 5 days before a plot to escape is devised by honored guest Lady Lake and Arifa Songbird. Lady Lake earns the moniker, “An T-amhrán Catha” (the battle song) and begins using her signature violin in battle to cheer the people of Chanteur. Arifa Songbird and her husband Kiaan die at the hands of Manger Mallacht as a “gift” to Aajfe.
Battle of Phiala Aajfe (13-17 Sanassis, 10.435 GS/LM)
- A year after the Battle of Gilganis, Aajfe Christobel An Locha and her people have sought refuge in the mountains of Gilganis, hidden in caves that flow throughout the terrain. Magner Mallacht draws her out with his “gift” of her deceased brother and sister in law. The battle lasts weeks before her forces are outnumbered and her people massacred. Before her death, Aajfe Cristobel entrusts the Relic to her familiar, an owl named HigHam, to be delivered to Aleydis Lake. It is shot down by an arrow over the Starling and Faintree rivers. The Relic is seemingly lost. Magner Mallacht is not sighted for quite some time after the bloody campaign that wiped out all of Gilganis.
Battle of Starling-Faintree (19-23 Darklis, 10.465 GS/LM)
- 30 years have passed since the Battle of Phiala Aajfe and the fall of Gilganis. In the shadow of what once was the bustling and beautiful city stands a small fishing village where the rivers of Starling and Faintree meet. Rumor spreads of a strange item found by one of the fishermen, and Manger Mallacht sets out to raze the village. Aleydis Lake leads an army to meet Manger Mallacht at Starling-Faintree and avenge her fallen kin. During the 4 day battle she manages to maim Manger Mallacht by taking his left eye but he succeeds in retrieving the relic.
Battle of Phiala Mathilde* (19 Moribund-3 Ostosia 10.489 GS/LL)
- Days turn into years and years into decades as the people begin to heal from the death and destruction left behind by Magner Mallacht. Many believed that retrieval of the relic was all that he desired, until another sleeping sickness befell the realms. The sisterhood of the Nine convene to forge a weapon strong enough to kill Magner Mallact. Mathilde Durand oversees the forging of the superweapon codenamed: Swan Song by Balestriere na Réaltaí-Riviere. With the use of spies and a sole secret powerful ally, Magner Mallact discovers this plot and lays siege to the Mantle’s sacred forge Foirnéis Neamhaí. On the 9th day of battle, when all seems lost, Aleydis and Adaleis Lake arrive with reinforcements. Mathilde is mortally wounded but at an unknown point before her death, Mathilde bequeaths Aleydis Lake with the weapon forged to destroy Magner Mallacht. Aleydis Lake loses her left eye in a duel against Mathilde's killer during her mourning rage across the field of Lentre-Deux and is subsequently forced to fall back to the forge with Anima's dwindling forces. Mathilde's glaive is planted alongside the other weapons of the fallen and her body is returned to her mothers in Atavis so she may be entombed. Eleanor De Gales born 10.493 GS/LL.
Battle of Timthriallta Briste (1-3 Ostosia 10.491 GS/LL)
- Final Battle against Magner Mallacht. Aided by a mysterious black unicorn, Magner Mallacht and his army of flesh homunculi hold out under siege by the combined forces of the Uxores Mortis, Guthanna An Domhain, and Sealgaírí Fola for 2 days before Magner weakens and 3 years to the day from the tragic events of Phiala Mathilde, Peeress Galexia Vigore Fay Solas Réalt stands shoulder to shoulder with Memoria Aleydis Lake as each strikes a killing blow (Aleydís, with the weapon given to her by the recently deceased Mathilde Durand).
