Meta Quote: As it is 2023 I have to put this CW - Slavery.
Willinghurst Cray is the most southernly island of an island chain. Which has a temperate climate.

Culture

From the end of their enslavement (see Demography and Population) the native male population became circumcised as a way to distance themselves from their history of their hardship. Those who were previously enslaved were freed and worked to get passage back to Willinghurst Cray would also be circumcised along with their freedom tattoos and freedom jewellery as another rite of passage, the first being allowed to work on your own work as part of the family business without the need to help the parent/senior in the family trade.

Demography and Population

Willinghurst Cray is only inhabited by caucasian people. When their population came across others of differing racial background they were the victims of slavery so kept residential immigration to those who were former slaves and the natives. Tourism is allowed but marriageĀ is not mixed. Their goverment type reflects this, having an ethno-Artistocracy.

Religion

The Religion of Willinghurst Cray is The Ten Tigers, its founding myth, The Myth Of The Tigers, is of tigers who once inhabited that helped the inhabitants by saving their lives and generally making non verbal hints. Through the tigers death they were honoured in Draurough Chapel, as a result of this the deer population bloomed as a way of thanking the Crayans for their reverence.

Foreign Relations

The Island north west of Willinghurst Cray is called Maharlika and is the island of brown people and the slavers of the people of Willinghurst Cray. At the end of the enslavement, trade was opened up between the two nations, with Maharlika sending Willinghurst Cray, spices and ginger.

Agriculture & Industry

Agriculture

Willinghurst Cray has a large number of plant and animal life, however much of the tree life is limited.

Trees

The majority of the trees that are grown for wood are maple trees, granted maple tress also produce sap. Other trees that are available are those that produce a product of value over the wood they have such as apple and walnut trees. Due to the small supply of these types of woods anything that is made from these woods will rack up the price and therefore are reserved for more wealthy customers or by the use of the University. Who can order furniture that have the patterns that mean something rather than having a bunch of stained maple wood provide the same effect.

Plants

Plants grown for agricultural purposes are that of the Canadian prairies and the great plains for the States, with all temperate crops thriving. herbs and other plants for medicinal reasons grow with limited or no human help or are at least grow where they can naturally.

Domesticated Animals

Pigs, sheep and bison are kept for the representative products and cows don't exist so rather the bison provide the dairy products along with transportation when horses are not available. Deer have not been domesticated yet so are hunted rather than farmed as part of the country's Sunday meal.

Pigs look more bore-like than the pigs we are used to and sheep are more bred for wool content than their meat meaning that sheep in winter look more like walking clouds than they do in our universe.

Prey Animals

Apart from deer that roam free, south of Blackridge are a number of herds of walruses, while not actively hunted the people nearby gather tusks from dead walruses who died trying to get back into the waters to hunt.

Predator Animals

Willinghurst Cray has bears and Mountain Lions. Town guards or Villages under the protection of their nearest town will defend the inhabitants with bear and Mountain Lion attacks.

Industry

The Island had other industries, mining and fishing.

Mining

Blackridge provides the rest of the country's stone and ore as well as metal needs. With most stone types and metals being able to be mined in the mountains near Blackridge and south of the country.

Fishing

Through Wimbourne and Grey Harbour the fishing industry exists with Grey Harbour gathering ambergris, catching fish, and catching crabs. While Wimbourne, makes nets and also fishes.

Education

Before the establishment of the University, education was taught by the parents or family members. They are taught the basics along with basic life skills along with the family trade. With the University established, the only change is learning about the trade, rather it is the parents or family members teach the younger person the topics they need to pass the enterance test.

Mythology & Lore

The two main myths are the The Myth Of The Tigers and The Sinister Cougar.
The Myth Of The Tigers
The Myth Of The Tigers, is the founding myth of the The Ten Tigers religion in which tigers used to inhabit Willinghurst Cray. Unlike the tigers in our universe, these tigers, help humanity non-verbally and would save their lives. Near the end of the myth tigers began to die out and were found dead on Willinghurst Cray's roads they were reventially honoured by being placed in a Chapel in Draurough as a result the deer population bloomed.
The Sinister Cougar
Blackridge has the myth of The Sinister Cougar, in which a male cougar entices a wrongdoer out of Blackridge and smells their hand if they smell wrong they are eatten as they were the person who commited the crime. All reports only cover Blackridge.
