Canem

Canem is a land in which the people may be harder than the stone that they live upon. Nestled in the Northeast, above Appollonia, exists a loose Federation of matriarchal families. Largely nomadic, the Matriarchs of Canem are ruthless and demanding - requirements if you are to survive among the mountainous peaks that stand in the area. After generational conflict with Appollonia, the invasion of the dwarves, and the rise of the Karzites, the survival of the Canemites is doubtful and what little contact existed has been lost.   Band - Koroleva Tribe - Velikya Tsarvena

Survival, liberation of slave families from Appollonia.

History

Once the mountains of Canem were prized by Appollonians as a potential limitless source of various metal ores that could feed the needs of their growing society. Thousands of slave workers were pressed into service to mine the dreary peaks for decades. While the resources were plentiful, the human cost hampered the ability to consistently bring the resources available there to market in Appollonia and nearly all the mining sites were abandoned once the primary workers, the men, had died in service. Left to die, the families that were left behind were thought to have died in the harsh climate. Within a generation, however, these abandoned slave families made themselves present once again. These new, matirachal clans began raiding Appollonian patrols and border forts stealing viable males whom they turned into a subservient male class in their tribes. During the Wars of Succession, these tribes began to raid, heavily, Appollonain settlements liberating captured slave families and ushering them into the hills to safety which bolstered their numbers even more. After the wars, the tribes retreated to their mountainous stronghold were they could rebuff an Appollonian incursion where they lived in relative safety for hundreds of years. About a hundred years ago, the dwarves returned seeking to reclaim their ancestral lands across Alcriya, primarily, the mountains of Canem. Reinstating the halls of their ancestors brought them into direct conflict with the Canemites tribes whose numbers withered in the face of the dwarvish power.
