Aldebaran V4: Welcome to Kathvin
General Summary
The party would reach their destination towards the end of the day. Kathvin village sat in the distance, the outline of its downfall providing a moody atmosphere. After their fight with the Pit Bandits, they needed a rest. So they would set camp up some distance away from the village, preparing to sleep for the night. Sha would pass along a message with the Ring of Dreams to Ishy, warning of the city's potential doom. Things were quiet until the undead they had asked to keep guard suddenly started claxoning. Something was in their camp, and all they could describe was a ball. They found signs of burned foliage nearby, but they had no idea what it could have been.
Getting ready to rest again, they'd set a proper watch this time. It would be Rozalin who would catch sight of the creature for but a moment. Waking everyone up once more, it would finally reveal itself to them. A Will o' Wisp looking to offer a deal. It told them Kathvin was dangerous, and it wanted them to feel true fear so it could feed off them. It would offer its help in whatever they were doing, but they obviously didn't trust the thing. Throwing its voice with ventriloquism and revealing itself only as an illusion, it took the rejection badly and warned them the they would meet again. The party decided it would be safer to sleep a little further away from the village this time.
Waking up refreshed, Mordecai, Rozalin, and Revi would do some scouting. They'd find the crypt on the east side of the village, if they wanted to bring their carriage they would need to pass through it. Occasional undead would mar their path, weird plant like things that, while they were no trouble to deal with alone, came at them quite often. Deciding they've scouted enough, they'd come back and come to the conclusion that they would leave their carriage behind and bring their horse with them. Making their way around the village, they'd begin to feel the dark pulses of something negative coming from the crypt. Powerful enough to encompass the surrounding area, the whole village and surrounding forests were an area of desecration.
Making it to the graveyard that would lead to the crypt, they would spot an abundance of glittering objects stuck in the webs nearby. There were also the corpses of people like them stuck in those webs, cocooned disgustingly. Thinking they would take the treasure carefully, the wisp would reveal itself again and ambush them. Waking the monster that made the webs, as well as some nearby ghouls hiding in the graves, the party would find themselves pinned between the two. With Sha engaging the ghouls with his own undead, Mordecai and Rozalin taking on the Deathweb that came bursting from the forest, and Revi taking to the sky to shoot at both sides, they'd get through the encounter alive. The Wisp, which the party would come to name Thandrick, seemed quite skittish and retreated as soon as things were looking bad.
Sha would manage to capture a ghast with a spell of his, convincing it to stand down and not attack his allies. He'd then engage the creature, attempting to learn what had happened here and what they might be facing. Armed with knowledge, they now knew of the dangers lurking below. Trepidatiously looking down its dark corridors, what will become of our heroes?
