Glasswort

Tobia Grass

Glasswort is a succulent plant that thrives is saline soils. The plants are typically small and feature bright green stems that turn red or purple in autumn. Native to the salty beaches on islands of the Pryde Waters, it has long spread to the coastal regions of Novyum and Tinjir. The latter of which has found the glasswort spread wildly across Tobia's Gulf, due to the gulf's marshy coastlines. So much so, that it is often called 'Tobia Grass' in Tinjir, despite being a foreign invasive species.

Known as saltwort in Novyum, the ashes of this succulent are an important ingredient in both glass and soap making. The plant can also be eaten raw as a salad, often with olive oil and garlic.
