Gold, known as auru in Novyum, and ahlin to the Dwarf, is a soft, dense yellow-orange metal that is easily malleable in its pure form. This moldable quality, its beauty, along with its rarity in nature has made its extremely valuable. Its resistance to acids and near untarnishable quality place it as one of the more sought-after metals by nearly every culture of Aldern.

As a precious metal, gold is used in jewelry and art across recorded history. That along with its near universal acceptance and value has made it a standard currency as well, with the Gold Piece being produced in is most economically strong nations. Easily manipulated gold coins are minted, melted and reminted over and over again as they pass through nations and time.

Though rare, gold has been found on every continent of Aldern. The major continent of Dergonhad has been found to have some of the largest deposits of the metal found, with gold mining becoming a major industry in the modern day. whereever found, it occurs in nature as nuggets in rivers and streams, sometimes as small as grains of sand. More often veins of gold run through rock formations in mountains found by the ancients and mined through the ages.
