Session 02 Report

General Summary

After returning the skeleton found in the snow, Johanna runs some basic tests and doesn't identify any harmful organisms, but the skeleton seems to be at least 100 years old. She leaves the computer running more tests, but these things take time, and a few hours of scanning are required to get any more information.
By the facility's door, Maja finds a strange and sticky strand of hair, or fur and collects it for further inspection.
The crew of the Solitude continues investigating the Outpost 247. John and Johanna stay on the ship while Angel, Drax, Maja and Sanvi go further down the morbidly quiet corridors. The facility creaks and moans with planet LV-636's strong winds. The interior is less cold than the outside, but it is still below freezing. The facility walls are littered with rust patches, almost as if someone threw "rust water balloons" on the walls; very odd since the metal used to fabricate these places is supposed to last for ages without rusting.
On the main corridor, the crew finds a mangled and bashed body blocking a door that with the remaining emergency power just keeps trying to shut itself, causing a squishy sound on the partially frozen body. It's a scientist, and it looks like he was beaten to death with some kind of bludgeoning object.

The crew explores a few more rooms:
  • The Mess Hall and Recreation Room: signs of struggle, blood on the floor and a jukebox on repeat, that is turned off by the crew. Food leftovers in different states of decomposition are scattered in the room; a pool table is drenched in blood, and a trail of blood leads to another corridor, but the trail stops suddenly and there's no body by it. But in the corridor, the crew spots a couple of other bodies.

  • By the Housing's door, the crew hears a voice coming from inside, but their attention is interrupted by a sound of metal against metal and a few moments later they are attacked by what seems to be a crazed scientist with a partially mutilated face. The "person" attacks with a wrench and Angel is quick to respond with a well-placed shot from his beloved Sofie. After shooting the "person" one more time in the head, just to make sure, Maja collects some tissue samples for later observation.

  • The crew then enters the Housing to investigate; they find another 4 bodies inside, all mangled and beaten up like the other bodies they found so far (a total of 7). In this room, they suddenly hear again the same voice, same tone and same volume; and they SEE a semi-translucent image of a man sitting atop a bunk bed, saying: "Turn the speaker down, doc!! I need to sleep!". That is enough to put Drax in a very troubled state and he needs a few minutes to recover his bearings. The others keep searching the big room and find a tape recorder (they don't play it) and a picture of a dozen scientists and a very weird cat, with glistening dark fur, six legs and a pair of tentacles coming out of its back.
    In the meantime, in the ship, John and Johanna spot something in the snow. Something dark and big. But the visibility is poor and they lose track of it as fast as a blink.
    The crew then decides to follow the facilities signs and go straight to the science labs. They ignore a few passages and doors and reach a security room, where the computers are all rusty and decayed, and past it, they see a security door leading to the lab; closed and with no power and they don't have access cards. Before they can decide their course of action they hear screams and shouts down the corridor, and running footsteps coming their way. They brace for an encounter at the same time that outside, in the snow, John and Johanna spot tracks in the snow. Tracks of some kind of large animal with many legs and leading towards the facility's entrance.
    End of session.
