Anatomy
The merfolk's upper body is that of a human body and has a tail for its lower body. A tail that is more like a fish's body and fin.
Biological Traits
Merfolk is a fish-type hybrid. As they live underwater, they have webbed fingers. About half of the merfolk species have gills on their necks while the other half do not. This is a result of the evolution of this species. An evolution that had only affected the merfolk who originated and live in the depths of the ocean.
Genetics and Reproduction
Mermaids - the females of the species - can give birth like humans do or lay eggs as fish do. It varies between each mermaid.

Geographic Origin and Distribution
Due to the nature of this species, they live predominately all over Alithia in the sea. Some merfolk found ways to live on land and/or relocate to lakes inland.
