After the Escape

The Wight Stuff, Author's Note

General Summary

Keeping to the woods and staying off of major roadways as you travel southeast allows your party to avoid having your horses recognized by locals, but after several days’ travel you think it’s reasonably safe to stop at a village for resupply.

While doing your business in town you overhear locals talking about the siege — clearly, this is big news hereabouts. No one mentions the assassination of the royal family, perhaps because no word from inside Tamrivena has leaked out. You realize you have information that no one here knows.

You get the sense, however, that the locals think very poorly of the royals, referring to them in tones implying corruption or perhaps being evil. The folk here all seem to know what they mean, so don’t really elaborate.

Regarding the attackers, however, they seem to be of two minds. On the one hand, rebellion is seen in a positive light, as the laxity in local law enforcement and heavy tax burdens will likely change... but on the other, there is a palpable fear of the nobles (or perhaps their supporters) who have risen up. Why this is so, none say out loud.

While this is a village, it is situated on a navigable river. A nearby band of gypsy Farlander halflings will happily trade horses for riding dogs, and there is a smithy and chandlery in town to buy and sell goods. (Oh, and Logan need not pay for his studded leather armor — that was lying in the heap in the mines, temporarily discarded by the werewolf. It also looks similar to the armor worn by the soldiers in the siege camp.)
