GoS Session 26: The Royal Assembly Report
General Summary
Last time we met left our heroes they were preparing for a meeting with the Lizardfolk Queen Othokent. Othokent outlined the difficult that her tribe had been facing. They had been chased out of their home by a large group of Sahuagin. In an uncharacteristic move, the Lizardfolk were currently seeking an alliance with the Sea Elves, Tritons and Locathah. Unfortunately, not all of the Lizardfolk agreed with this departure from their traditional culture. In particular, the Shamans had been actively attempting to thwart Othokent's efforts.
As if to illustrate the point, the head Shaman, Litrix, interrupted the queen. She could clearly understand common, but choose to converse in Draconic. She cut an imposing form, tall, with an armour crafted from jewellery, bones, and scraps of metal from previous victims. She was supported by Aryte, a scarred hunter. Minister Sauriv, translated the argument.
The Queen's crown had been stolen by a group of Bullywugs, Litrix was adamant that this was a sign from the Gods that Othokent was unfit to rule. Not only this, but the Queen would lead the Lizardfolk to disaster. Othokent, used her authority as Queen to dismiss the Shaman.
The Queen explained that the diplomats from the other races were meeting shortly, she asked if the party represented Saltmarsh. Using his magic Theseus contacted Eliander Fireborn, to ask him what they should do. The Councillor suggested that the party should report to the town council. The party discussed this with the Queen and agreed to meet at Dunwater Sawmill within a week.
It took three days for the party to return to Saltmarsh, on the way they stopped at Baldurus's Mansion. They hoped to retrieve the weapons and the gold that the Lizardfolk were trading on the now sunken The Sea Ghost. As they arrived, they noticed that the mansion was a buzz of activity, and decided they might have better luck, rowing from Saltmarsh, under cover of darkness.
Arriving in Saltmarsh, the party met with the Town Council and made their report. As they were leaving William Woodsbury shook the hands of all the council members and attempted to electrocute Gellan Primewater. Unfortunately, Williams attempts failed. Although Gellan laughed at the wizards 'attempt at a joke', William realised that Gellan's friendly response was little more than a disguised threat.
After the meeting Shiloh , asked around, looking for someone who could row the group out to the wreck. They headed to the Empty Net, a local den of ill repute and spoke to the owner Kreb. Kreb introduced Shiloh to Old Toby, a local fisher. Old Toby agreed to take the party out later that evening.
As the party returned to the The Wicker Goat, William made some excuses and left to attend to some personal business. He headed up to Keledek's Tower, to find it still closed. William transported his familiar junior into the tower, only to find it nothing but an empty shell. Disappointed, William was returning to the Wicker Goat when he was approached by Elainder.
Elainder informed William that there was a magical incident that the town needed William's help to investigate. The incident had occurred just outside of town. William suggested waiting for the rest of the group, and Elainder waved away his concern. Stating that he'd already sent some of the guards to collect his friends.
In the dying light, Elainder led William to a small copse of trees. William strode into the trees in front of Eliander when he realised that something wasn't right. A sharp stabbing pain, followed by extreme tiredness. As William was falling to the ground, he spotted Elainder's form slowly shifting into the form of Godry, the mercenary from the Red Princess. As William fell into unconsciousness he heard Godry's words:
"Hani'ata, sends her blessings."
