Atzal

To the untrained eye, these creatures might look a lot like a feathered winged monkey crawling on the trees. But these creatures are actually a bird-type animal, without the capability to fly, but instead, they crawl and hop quite well.

Physique

The Atzal has 4 limbs; two legs with gripping feet with strong claws, and two arm-like wings with sharp nails. Atzal is extremely good at crawling and gripping to almost nothing as they easily cross the Elmon forest in the treetops. Their strong legs make them able to jump up at high distances, and then gripping to small dents in trees and rocks. Their body is covered with sharp feathers, camouflaged as greenery. When necessary, they can fold their wings over their body to look exactly like the surrounding flora.

Omnivores

Atzal is omnivores but lives mainly on a plant-based diet. They prefer the sweetness of most flower-type plants and the juicy plants that grow high up in the trees. At times they eat small animals that live in the trees, like small flying insects and other bug-like animals. They help the forest by eating plants and fruits but replanting them other places - as birds do on earth with plums and other fruits.   They look for food during the day, and tend to share with the others in their flock when they come back with their catch. At night, they might go out looking for food again, and at this time of day, normally hard to see plants starts to glow. This is like a buffet for the Atzal.

Natural predators

There aren't many predators in Elmon, but those that exist eat almost anything they can come by. There is a creature to the small side, that is really agile and can at times keep up with the fast speed of an Atzal. The Catane is one of the only carnivores in the forest and has, therefore, a limited competition. Atzal has evolved to avoid the Catane, and uses its skills to jump high and climb fast to get away from certain death.   Atzal isn't evolved to fight, and running is, therefore, their best chance of survival - this is also something they are quite good at, and they often get away from the Catanes.

Relationships

Atzal enjoy others companionship and love to be around family and friends. Large groups of Atzal are often seen together and playing amongst the young is a normal thing. They are really good to create bonds between others, and even between them and another species. They are really friendly and a kind creature.   They often follow each other and stay in large flocks. This is both to make them all safer if a Catane appears, but also because they enjoy each others company. High up in the tree, Atzal "builds" houses for them to sleep in. They weave some of the thin treetops together to make small platforms for them to enjoy. Here they are safe from many dangers lurking on the forest floor.   Though it isn't always safest to be at the very top of the trees. You see, the trees protect the forest below from harsh weather, so the Atzal has to be careful at the treetops.   Sharing is caring, and this is definitely something the Atzal lives by. They all go out hunting and gathering, and when they come back, a big pile of food is made and everyone is to enjoy it together. This is possibly one of the reasons the Atzal have it so well in the forest. Their way of going about their life makes living easier and more relaxing.
