Skinwalking
Skinwalking, or metamorphosis, as it is commonly called, involves changing one's body from one form to another; "walking in another's skin," as it were. Traditionally associated with the ability to transform into an animal, skinwalking extends beyond the realm of the animal kingdom and permits the user to transform themselves into plants or even inanimate objects.
Effect
Skinwalking involves morphing one's body to that of another being, most commonly an animal. No matter what the user transforms into, the form will carry some resemblance to their unmorphed body. While morphed, the user carries an article of clothing, such as a cape or bandanna, that carries a hint of the user's true nature. This article of clothing is what enables the user to change back; if it is lost or stolen, the user effectively becomes trapped in that form.
Side/Secondary Effects
The user is immune to other morphing spells when they are in a morphed form.
Manifestation
Skinwalking is pretty quick-and-dirty presentation wise; a light flashes for a few seconds, and when it abates, the user is morphed.
Discovery
Skinwalking is most commonly associated with Druid types who commune with nature. This is partially due to the fact that the spell itself uses Earth magic. However, there have been a few organizations in the past and even now that give the spell a significant role in their rituals. Around the Vernal Equinox, many Altairians will use skinwalking spells to invoke the powers of the flora and fauna that awaken at this time of the year.
None required for the initial shift. Once morphed, the user must have access to the article of clothing they retained to morph again.
This spell requires no incantation. Simply picture the animal you want to morph into, move your body into a position that invokes that animal, and begin channeling your magic. The morphing will take care of itself.
