Not just a Sellsword
”So, this is the place?”
His eyes swept over the quiet main road of the Village of Amethyst Grove. This village -or more like a hamlet, if one was to count the inhabitants- was truly forsaken by all gods and goddesses. So distant, so far in the periphery that he had had to ask way for several times. Dead animals weren't usually very helpful, but when he had found couple of gnolls, he knew he was on the right track. Traveling through the jungle wasn't his favourite past-time activity. It was too hot, too humid, too sweaty.
”There's nothing here.”
He pointed out, muttering quietly under his breath, without expecting an answer. The tiny settlement was sleeping, like cat that hadn't properly even been woken up, laying in the sun and soaking in all the warmth.
”Am I too early?”
He pondered, scratching his scruffy beard. He should shave at some point, but he hadn't been around the civilisation in such a long time, so it hadn't been the most important thing on his list of priorities.
”Patience. They will come.”
A voice answered. It was more of a feeling of words, feeling of understanding. He felt the weight on his hip, the closeness of his sword.
”If you are so sure.”
He sighed a little.
”Meanwhile I could really rest my feet… It's been a few weeks since I've had a good meal.”
”You don't like fruits? I provided those for you and you got your stomach full. What is there to complain?”
”Yes, I am grateful for your help, but sometimes you need a proper steak to sate your appetite.”
He chuckled and began to make his way leisurely towards the only establishment of the small village. 'Miner's Delight', told the old and weather-worn sign.
”More like a 'Mercenary's Delight', now.”
”You're not a real mercenary.”
”What do you even know about the professions of the humans?”
”Not much, but enough to know you are no ordinary sellsword.”
”Shush, or I'll sell you.”
”How barbaric.”
With a faint grin lingering on the corner of his mouth he stepped in, ready to reward himself with a lukewarm beer. And then, he'd just wait...
