Personal history
The Celestial peacock was originally just a normal peacock. When it was born from the void and the gods breathed life into it, it got to choose one gift; As the peacock was a vain creature, itimmediately fell for the flashy feathers, laughing mockingly to those who chose strong wings or a beautiful voice to attract mates. No, the peacock knew it was the most handsome bird of them all with its shiny tail feathers.
It was happy for a long time, but at some point, after it had gazed for years at the sky at other birds and yearned to fly like the eagles and doves, to soar the skies like terns and martins, it got more and more upset. When it heard the beautiful songs of nightingales, the mighty screeches of eagles, it began to grow more resentful and bitter. it trie dits best to better itself, to learn to sing and fly, but alas, it could only sing with a shrilling shriek and only fly short burst with its beautiful tail it had gotten as a gift from the higher powers when it had been born. It had not gotten a beautiful singing voice or fast wings, and even when it had originally been the first to choose such exquisite plumage, it now felt like the higher powers had somehow cheated it. How the life had cheated it. But after resentment and bitterness grew too big, its friend the magpie pointed out that it was no use of moping around, that maybe there was a way for the peacock to achieve what it yearned for. And Magpie had heard rumours of a mysterious mote of energy called The Tide of Storms, that could possibly be just what the Peacock needed.
The Peacock, thanking his friend profusely, went on a lifelong search for the mysterious mote. He met people, visited secluded temples and forgotten libraries, in search for the wisdow that would guide it towards the mysterious power. In meantime, the peacock grew older and older. Its beautiful tail feathers turned scrawny, less voluptous and the brilliant colors of tis plumage slowly began to change and dim, but the peacock didn't really care. It had a bigger goal in life, and eventually it managed to locate the mote, which resided on a far away island in the middle of an ocean. It took ages for it to make a proper plan on how to get there without being able to fly long distances. It had to build a boat, hire people to help, and when the boat crashed on underwater rocks, it had to get a proper maritime chart. It had to learn to sail, it had to hire and sweettalk a small crew to join it on its travel to the distant, possibly non-existent island. For the crew, it was basically a suicide mission, because there was no promise of returning home.
When the ship finally set sail and through several harships it finally reached the distant shore of the distant island, the Peacock was overjoyed. It had finally found what it needed, the mote, but it also had to fight for it, as the mote resided in a lair of a giant spider. The Peacock fought bravely and managed to drive the spider away. The Peacock finally got the mote and swallowed. It could fly, at last! When it had just spread its wings for its first flight, the human gods approached it and pleaded for the Peacock to give away the mote, which they would need to fight the evil or the whole world would succumb into the darkness.
The Peacock was, undestandably, upset about this. It was angry: it had just achieved its lifelong dream, and without the gift of flight all that was left was its now dimmed, old plumage; the feathers were all worn out and color of grey. What beauty it had had in its prime, was now gone. Without the gift of the flying, the Peacock felt like it was nothing. But, eventually, when it weighted its opinions, it did give up and handed over the mote, for the greater good.
Now, flightless and its ship sailed away, the bird was stuck on the faraway island. It had thought it could fly away, btu after it had given away its greatest treasure, the gift of flying, it could not. The only way out was to swim, and when it tried it, it didn't get too far: a giant barracuda came and killed the slow swimming bird.
Human god Fenrua found the mangled body of the bird, and the peacock's sacrifice reminded him of the prophecy they had gotten earlier. From that Fenrua understood the meaning of those mysterious words, took one tail feather of the peacock, made it into The Quill of Knowledge and asked the goddess of moon and sky Selûne to raise the peacock to the sky, so it could fly among the stars forever.
