The city takes the form of a cruciform complex with 4 large plazas. The plazas each support a different civic function. The streets of the city are narrow warrens of alleys and paths.

Districts

The residential zone is the main cross area is densely populated with apartments, estates, castles, guild halls, and hold the population, this area is known as the arms.

Assets

Tinena has about 100,000 aligned citizens in addition to the population of the city to draw on. 80% of that population are engaged in agriculture in the forests spread around the region. about 34,000 conscripts and porters could be called up from that number.   Tinena is at the end of a navigable river and has a dock that can support frigate or smaller ships, and can make repairs to most craft. They have a sizable stock of fish in the river and support a fishing fleet up and down river.   Tinena has a sewer system and storm water system so it has a reputation as a very clean and disease free city.

Guilds and Factions

Tinena took in the nobles of Karna and there has been a sizeable faction of these Karnese who want to take their old city back and continuously lobby the king and his court for help, support or alliances to retake the city. For a century these requests have been politely resisted with facts about the strength of Karna's walls added by the Ayorhah. That has recently changed with a discovery that could dramatically change that calculus.

History

Founded in 5074 as a colony by Acamaxotl kings, it found it's self isolated and becoming more independent. In 5196 they made a formal alliance to split away from Acamaxotl with a confederacy and mutual defense pact. Both cities have grown relying on each other for trade and support in defense from monsters and warlords.

Points of interest

The northwest corner of the city has a huge plaza known as the Plaza of Kings, and is permanently for city and military business. The northwest corner holds a large stepped pyramid which is the king's throne and administrative seat. Attached to this pyramid is a large castle and yard for his private residence and his court and attendants. Along the west edge are offices for various taxes, city administration and meeting halls.     The southwest quadrant has a large plaza that has a 300' wide pool in the center. This plaza is used for general recreation and festivals per the lunar calendar. The central pool is "bottomless" and even the lizardfolk will not dive in it except on dares as it considered forbidden and cursed as a lot of swimmers don't come back up. It has fish and other creatures living in it and the water isn't contaminated. It is used as a source of water.   The Northeast quadrant plaza is the plaza of Philosophers and there are several schools, universities, and philosophical halls here. Photoconcordance, Man and Biosphere committee, Vitalist, and Mortal Coil all have large pyramid complexes here. the plaza has temporary tents and pavilions put up for class and instruction periods.   Southeast quadrant is reserved for the regular market period and is often filled with hundreds of sellers and the only large market for hundreds of miles around.

Tourism

The majority of the traffic is from the outlying villages coming to trade, learn or engage in tribute politics with the king and his court. Tinena is considered a place you go because you have to not because you want to.

Architecture

The buildings in the city proper are all stone construction. The pyramids are off local stone and were constructed in the first century after independence. The plazas are made of large local stone plinths except for the one around the pool, that predates the site and is made from synth or a stone unlike the local stone.

Geography

Tinena is situated in a broad valley formed by the Ocapan river. To the east is the Altecoc coastal jungle, and the forest it is in a less dense jungle, but still very overgrown. The soil is not great for open field cultivation so there is only some of that near the city itself. The rest of the agriculture for the region is shade grown crops integrated into the forest ecology.   To the southwest the land slopes toward the Xoacoana highlands. The surrounding forest is crisscrossed with shallow wild rivers that feed into the Ocapan.   The climate is usually hot half of the year and warm but moist the remainder. Rain averages are around 96 and 98 inches of rain a year.

Natural Resources

Lumber is a major export for the area for markets in Ayorhah lands that lack the size of trees needed for ship building and very large construction projects.   Secondly are the agricultural products like coffee, chocolate, berries, and components for dyes. There are also medicinal plants in the forests that are harvested for medicine compounding done in other cities downstream.   There are minor deposits of iron, tin and copper not worth extracting for commercial purposes.   There is a good quarry about 100 miles southwest and the source of the materials for the pyramids.
