Quanan
Founded at the end of the First Draconic Awakening, Quanan is the Dragonborn home amongst the land of sand, void, and ice. Quanan is home to the largest Dragonborn population in all of Alterra, and is widely known as the chosen city of Bahamut the Platinum Dragon. Despite its proximity to The Well and the extreme conditions as a result, this city has thrived for over a millenium.
Culture
Racial Makeup: The population of Quanan is mainly composed of dragonborn, kobolds, humans, hill dwarves, half-elves, and tieflings. There are also smaller communities of high elves, aasimar, and half-dragons. Due to the multiple Draconic Awakenings and a history of conflict between metallic and chromatic dragons, dragonborn of chromatic descent have historically faced undue prejudice, especially during these periods.
It is believed that an unknown number of metallic dragons live among the people of Quanan, taking the form of some of the aforementioned mortal races.
History
Quanan was established at the end of the First Draconic Awakening. The center of Quanan marks the location where The Dragon Queen, the goddess of chromatic dragons, was defeated and laid to rest. The settlement was initially formed to prevent the goddess's resurrection. After the Second Draconic Awakening, The Platinum Dragon, the goddess of metallic dragons, blessed the land of Quanan to further secure the defeat of the Dragon Queen and to provide a safe home for dragonborn and those who embrace draconics. With each subsequent draconic awakening, the population of Quanan grew significantly as more dragonborn heeded the call to this sacred city.
During the Fifth Draconic Awakening in 1697 AB, Quanan was nearly destroyed when The Solidarity of Tiamat sieged the city and tried to use The Platinum Dragon's son as a vessel for The Dragon Queen's soul. Fortunately, this awakening only lasted 5 months because a group of mercenaries, a school of wizards, and former members of the Solidarity who defected from the cult formed the new Dragon Knights and combined their efforts to stop the ritual. 41 years of peace later, the Dragon Knights and the city of Quanan are currently on the lookout as reports of chromatic dragon sightings have once again reached the city...
