Vespertine Houses

When magic and the arcane was outlawed by regent Vadrian Eberhard, several noble families were granted an exception from the harsh laws and persecutions by the Midnight Ministry. The exception was formalized in the Carta Vesperis and these noble families became known as the Vespertine Houses. This meant that, until Menerva’s Mandate, the Vespertine Houses had a monopoly on arcane magic and many became extremely rich, although feared, mistrusted and surrounded by dark rumors.
