The Mirrored

You ever see one of those reflective masks and a feather in their hands. You run you hear me? And you pray they don't give that feather to you.
  • A warning against the mirrored
Assassins, thieves and smugglers. The mirrored are the thieves guild and dark assassins order of Alturis. Rumour has it their leader accepted a deal with the god 'Mask' which led to their incredible successes throughout the country in the last half century.   They are known for their faceless mirrored helmets. So polished one can see their own reflection before they die. They are also known to carry feathers that they dip in the blood of their targets as proof of a kill through scrying.   The mirrored come in a variety of shapes and sizes, due to their variety of work. Though it's important to note the mirrored are locked in a bloody war with the Crownsguard due to their illegal trade and underbelly trade routes in major cities.   The Mirrored also act as a loan sharks and pawnbrokers at times, with individual mirrored members willing to trade large sums of gold and resources for interesting and dangerous items or routes into secret areas (a mirrored within A'mlon is currently offering 10,000gp to anyone who can give them a route into the Spire of Knowledge so they can take and peruse the knowledge as they please).

Structure

The organisation of the mirrored is fairly loose:
  • Most mirrored become free agents after becoming a part of the thieves guild where they receive their tattoos, their mask of mirrors and are given a final warning that they will be abandoned and left behind if they are caught or rat out the mirrored. This free agent nature has given the mirrored prominence and good numbers but also increased the amount of low quality mirrored as opposed to the talented bespoke thieves that they used to be when they were a smaller organisation.
  • Within every city there is a space simply known as 'The Messenger cabin' that one can find by following the thieves cant signs across the city. Messenger cabins hold 'Retiree' mirrored members. They are too old to continue in the thief work and instead now organise jobs and payment as well as getting hold of weapons and materials to sell to other mirrored in the area. If you survive as a mirrored and are accepted as a Retiree it is often seen as a good ending for a scoundrel.
  • Finally, in the Mirrored base in Litchfield lies the group known as 'Avandra's Trine' the three Mirrored who control all the others. Nothing is known of their identities only that any called into a meeting with them personally never come out.

Culture

The mirrored are exceptionally flexible, often mirrored members will find people that impress them and personally teach tricks of the trade to them before sending them to a messenger where they are tested and, if they pass, they receive the necessary mirrored equipment.   This turns the faction into a more free standing agent group that accept odd jobs in the area to make some good coin and continue on their way.   Mirrored generally see other members with favour though many of the older school mirrored believe there has been a clear stagnation in the new ranks and a diluting of quality which has led to a number of conflicts among them within the ranks.

Assets

They are a wealthy group and their other major strange is their contacts, allies and alliances... most powerful politicians know at least one mirrored member... though very few mirrored become public figures for obvious reason.

History

The mirrored were founded by Avandra's Trine 100 years before the dread king. They survived through that by carrying out guerilla warfare style assaults on the dread king and his forces and sneaking into the shadows... all in all, the mirrored's saving grace amongst their oldest ranks is they are known to be the silent hero's of the war against the dread king.   Post-Dread king the mirrored established an incredible underground presence in all major cities as they were rebuilt and grown. This led to them hiring more and more individuals and thus the currently problematic diluting of numbers.
